I've known John as a friend for several years thru the LI horse community as well as thru the Northport Schools.I moved to Florida and have not had any contact with him for almost 2 years. I must admit I'm quite shocked, and can't imagine this really happened. Knowing him personally in the capacity I did - I would never believe this possible. It's unfortunate and sad that it did happen. He obviously has suffered some sort of breakdown recently because many who know him will attest to the fact that this is grossly out of character. I pray for the young girl and wonder where the hell her parents were?????? In all truthfulness if the girl were perhaps 3 mos. older than she is, this wouldn't even be an issue due to the consent laws in Nebraska. The witch hunt can be called off - I'm sure justice will be served

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. It is quite possible that you and others have been deceived by Mr. Monetti. Many of the nastiest criminals are successful in maintaining appearances. It isn't your fault you didn't see this aspect of John Monetti. If he is found guilty, there will no doubt be many suprised folks.
I don't buy the "only 3 months more and...", excuse one bit. The law is the law. If waiting 3 months makes it OK, then you must wait 3 months. Besides, Mr. Monetti is believed to have made at least 3 trips to Nebraska in the past year for the same purposes. It is not known yet when the victimization began.
I agree that the girl's parents may share some blame, but they aren't accused of having sex with a minor. If you read Mr. Brazda's article, you will see that us benighted Nebraskans are only beginning to become aware that this sort of nasty internet predator crime can happen right in our little towns. We have an electric chair here in Nebraska. The last time anyone died in it was 1996, when John Joubert took a seat. Joubert was also a sexual pervert that preyed on kids. He liked to pick up young boys and torture them to death for sexual gratification. Only Joubert and a few dyed in the wool death penalty opponents objected to his fate.
Nebraskans aren't especially bloodthirsty or brutal; we live close to the earth. Castration and culling aren't necessarily barbarities to us. They are elements of good husbandry and part of our provincial patois.

I am quite aware of the presumption of innocence at the foundation of US criminal justice. But you should remember that the presumption only applies in court. The public at large is under no obligation at law to presume anyone innocent or guilty. We are free to make up our minds as we please.
This freedom is exactly why prospective jurors are asked if they have formed an opinion as to guilt or innocence before they are selected to sit for a criminal trial. If they have, they may be excluded, but they aren't punished or even scorned for having done so.

My son had Mr. Monetti for a 5th grade teacher. He always liked the little girls. He displayed clear favoritism . Now I know why. He was always inappropriate in his behavior in general and I always thought there was something odd about him. I have no idea how he became a principal. I do feel badly for his family. You are 100% correct, kay. Even if an underage girl is not disabled in any way, it remains a crime for an adult to have sex with her. The fact that Mr. Monetti's victim had a problem makes his crime that much more heinous.
I feel sorry for her, her family and everyone else Mr. Monetti has hurt. He just makes it worse by refusing to admit his guilt. Now this ugly mess has to be hashed and re-hashed for who knows how long. He is only compounding the damage he has already done.
Just an update to all regarding Mr Monetti.
Mr Monetti's attorney's are trying to subpoena the little girl along with the High School guidance counselor who they are asking to present her school records in hopes that it will show that the girl was perfectly capable of saying no.
Her parents and the school/counselor are the ones who have filed a motion to quash meaning that on 10/12, the judge will decide if the subpoenas stand or not.
Too complicated for something that was against the law. Period.
The preliminary hearing has been postponed as the little girl is not feeling well.
The motion to quash did not go thru therefore, she will be required to testify.
So ugly & disturbing.
I dont see how you people can say anything bad about John Monetti.He is really the sweetest guy anyone could ever have in there life and you people are making him out to be this bad guy that you all just want him to be.He did NOTHING wrong all he did was love someone for gods sake!!
