Who knows what his reasons were for hoarding all that money on his property.

If I had been hoarding cash in my home somewhere I'd be worried about people breaking in and stealing it from me.

I'm thinking he wasn't that greedy, that maybe he was just a compulsive saver - or maybe he had been keeping his eye out for the right bank but hadn't found it yet at the time of his death. Or maybe that huge wad of cash served as a mojo of sorts for him. Everybody else only wished they had pockets full of money.
