Cob Pile

My take on this issue looks at things from a slightly different perspective: http://ggthoughts.blogspot.com/2...-be- famous.html

Too bad that screwed up young murderer couldn't have died slowly and painfully while the survivor of one of his victims screamed curses in his face.

I have no interest in seeing him suffer, unless he killed someone I was fond of, but he was in definite need of seeing himself for the rotten person he was.

The kid came in with a Russian assault rifle. I would not feel right if I worked at a department store where they expected me to go after a man like that with a handgun. I don't even think a security guard with a handgun would attempt that.

Obviously, your opponents (not myself) are going to say: This wasn't a hunting rifle. A kid with a serious, long mental health history was able to acquire a Russian assault rifle. What's wrong with this picture?

A handgun often has an advantage over a rifle in close quarters, Ryan. I wouldn't expect anyone who hadn't prepared themselves for it to undertake a possibly altruistic attempt to stop a madman. One round from a .45 or a couple of .380 hollow-points could have stopped him. I carry one or both much of the time, and would have been inclined to give it a try. Maybe there would have been an opportunity, maybe not.

I don't think the perp here could have purchased the rifle legally. At least not without lying on his form. It seems that he stole it from a relative, who may our may not have taken appropriate actions to secure his weapon against such loss.
