SSC was coined by David Stein. He never wanted SSC to grow to the likes it has.....here is a link to his thoughts on the subject....

Also you might want to check out my essay on RACK vs SSC

SSC to me has become something we give the vanilla community to show wer are "okay" and that concept bothers me. See we practice safety we can say. See submission is gift. See we don't abuse each other we have standards. All are BDSM slogans gone bad to me.

WOOHOO! Someone actually reads this blog! LOL

The reason I wrote the SSC essay was more or less to express opinions similar to yours. The definitions of SSC are too flexible to set hard-and-fast rules, and when coupled with the diversity in our tastes and interests in BDSM, it becomes near to impossible to define, but why restate the essay here.

Thanks for coming by and commenting, Danae. Come back often.

Well what to say?? You said it all already. xx

Patrick, this should be required reading for anyone contemplating the life.

Feh. I read it and left a comment - but while it was still Blogger comments

I saw your comment, Confused.

I read this but I didn't say anything earlier Patrick because I don't know anything about SSC.

But I liked your piece! And your other one too. I look forward to reading more

Would you share your commentary again with us, perhaps, Confused? I always love hearing your thoughts, darlin'.

*s* I'm not entirely sure it was neccesarily worth sharing! But your post brought to mind debates I've had concerning the "Wiccan Rede" - a little saying some/all* Wiccans adhere to - "an' it harm none, do as you will" (* some or all depending on which Wiccan you talk to ). The debate centres around the meaning of harm and none - does harming none include harming yourself, f'r example? Does it just mean people? Animals? Plants? What constitutes harm, exactly? Does unintentional harm count? Can you have do exactly as you want without ever causing harm? Do you follow the spirit or the letter of it?

Usually at that point some-one will pipe up about the (possible) origins of it - which is kinda fitting for some forms of D/s etc - "Do what you will shall be the whole of the law. Love is the law, love under will". Although I'm not entirely sure it was intended to neccessarily cover that sort of thing - but it's actually not that inconceivable.

Erm, anyway - that's the expanded version.

Smiles. Thanks, Confused. A good point, and we all know that few thoughts these days are really new, so much as just restated. LOL

Keep in touch!

HERE HERE, Confused! Great points! and a good way to look at SSC!

Patrick, I have to agree with most of what you say. I just know that I have a safe word, make safe calls, and have limits {for now} and I Play with people I know. That is my SSC.
