What is equally disturbing with this news is the fact that several people removed themselves from consideration as a result of the viciousness of the confirmation process. Nomination to the Supreme Court is the highest honor that a legal scholar can achieve, and we now have some of our brightest legal minds removing their name from consideration as a result of their desire to stay out of politics.

That's a sad commentary on the evolution the political process has seen in recent years.
