Hi don,
Yep, the watson quote speaks for itself.
You are the lucky one. I've got a special place in my heart for hummingbirds, they used to come to my place in ones and twos everyday in Venezuela, but not quite warm enough for them in England.
Here's Wishing you a fine day!

OHHHHHHH love it, love the hummers, I have feeders out, and I have hours of enjoyment watching them. They seem to be a bit territorial, they do a lot of scrapping for placement. So I put out several smaller ones.
I love the Gloriosa Lily that it is feeding on, also.....I used to have these, but not anymore. sniff sniff.

Hi Serenity, nice yards always attract little visitors looking for bright colours, aromatic fragances and the essence of life.
I have visions of you dancing and fluttering thru the day. Hope yours turns out to be a magical afternoon.
I'll be round laters see what thoughts you been meditating on.
PS - It's actually stopped raining here, the grass now well and truly watered. That sunshine you expressed arrived across the pond via Japan, and the Sun at last shines bright in pale blue skies.

Hi Nea, it is not only man that is territorial, just that the birds including hummingbirds are more 'civilized' - they just have staggered feeding or drinking times.
I used to get dozens thru the day come to my spot in the hills, each seemed to have their own preferred time and destination. They'd come hither & tither they'd hum & hover, they'd drink and feed and then fly off to the next flowerbed. Very very civilized. But I guess if they cross paths, or their wires get crossed, well its like people chasing after a free parking space in the City. lol
The measure of greatness, like all things it's the spirit of the law, not the letter. One cannot walk down the street and wish a good day to all and sundry who walks by, but one can radiate 'goodwill'
One cannot hep every old lady across the road - some might take offence if one bunch of girl scouts takes them across, and another bunch takes them right back. But offering a seat on a bus to an old lady, or a pregnant lady, is quite common around here - even among unruly teenagers ...
Generosity, well I've only got two kidneys ...
so I guess I'm limited in how many I could donate. lol!
But hmmmmm would I begrudge someone else anything, whatever it is they have? I don't think so
Would I generally lend my coat or sandals ... yes except nobody thinks much of my one old coat. lol!
Would I deny anyone a glass of water, and insist they buy 'bottled' water???
Would I deny someone reading a paper or book I've already read???
Yet some people are so mean and miserly, they probably would tell you to go and get your own.

Indeed when we look at the skies we see all stars shine brightly, some appear brighter because theu are closer, some less bright because they are further.
And what determines how bright each star is and how near or how far ...
The star that shines brightest shines brightest in the day and in the night no matter how near or yet how far.
One thousand smiles and good wishes return to you Oh Empress of the brightest star

Hi Plato, I've just been looking at your (metaphysical) metamorphosis. I had stopped by there and glanced before, but since you have highlighted I looked further in depth. I note you do actually deal with time scales in the human context, can they be applied to physics and matter(?):
Lets just say, that if the speed through which we had measured something was infinitely slow on a macro scale , how fast indeed would all life be (have been) contained in that blink of a eye? So what are we seeing then, that a whole life has been reviewed?
Does one then recognize that indeed, choice is the heart of all matters, and what moves such matters that we indeed recognize something anmidst its formation. That all energy in motion recognizes, that it has its motivation to be, and what gave it so?

Well the thoughts were partly based on don's poem about looking at the clouds. I always feel that when clouds take shape (make shapes) one can almost see the intangible force or being that is behind the form. We have these more physical material forms (bodies) but the clouds in the skies are pretty much like the spirit held within. Except it is easier for a cloud to gather water (liquid) or dissipate (evaporate) into non-visible thin air

What lovely thoughts to be juggling/huggling. And what an honor and a joy that you would share them with me. And I am struck by the truth in that. As a child, gazing up into the clouds while lying on the grass in the park, I could feel that sense of oneness with the shapes and forms as they shifted and morphed and created magical dreams in my mind.

Serenity, if you want some reading (not a lot) there's an interesting link above on the comment by plato to his post on butterflies and transformation. Very metaphysical perceptions from a logical mind, dealing with the tangible world of physics and the intangible, that just beyond our mental perceptions or physical sight

Dear Quasar,
In Scientific American, Leonard Susskind describes strings as being like hummingbird's wings. "The string's oscillations are usually too rapid to detect. One cannot see the wings of a hovering hummingbird, because its wings flutter too fast. But in a photograph taken with a fast shutter speed, one can see the wings - so the bird looks bigger."
"Similarly, if a hummer falls into a black hole, an observer will see its wings take form as the bird approaches the horizon and the vibrations appears to slow down; it seems to grow. Now suppose that the wings have feathers that flap even faster. Soon these, too, would come into view, adding further to the apparant size of the bird. The observer sees the hummer enlarge continuously. However, the participant who falls into a black hole with the hummingbird sees no such strange growth or changes in the bird."
"A string is minute. But as a string falls into a black hole, its vibrations slow down and become visible. The behavior of a string in its higher mode freezes out. The string spreads and grows, just as if it was being bombarded by particles and radiation in a very hot environment. In a relatively short time, the string and all the information it carries is smeared over the entire horizon."
By the way, please don't think that I'm infatuated with Prof. Susskind. I simply find the way he conveys physics to be highly polished yet -at the same time- remarkably amusing. Even though I share a vast number of his political views, I lack his desire to dig around into the dirt of the landscape.
Have an enjoyable week!
Sincerely,
Cynthia |

You know, I was intending on clicking on that link....it is so spectacular to me the frequency with which the butterfly has come up as a symbol of transformation for me in the last 8 months or so. I painted one about three or so months ago, as a totally free-form, abstract kind of creation from the spirit. And now, butterflies are emerging all over the place in my cyber wanderings. So thank you for reminding me to click through.

Hi Cynthia beautiful string winged hummingbird of the sky.
You do realise that if anything falls into a blackhole it most probably does so from the horizon of said blackhole, and is attracted by gravity towards the dense mass point (or singularity) within.
Why on earth should I think you are infatuated with Prof Susskind, you totally misinterpreted my intent that day. I agreed with you and shared with you inthe elegance of Prof Susskind's theory, however where I differ with him is in that he needs to fold his flat atlaslike landscape into an earthlike sphere (globe), with all his pocket universes not beyond any 'artificial' cosmic event horizon millions of light years away, but folded into one Megaverse, right here and around us...

Q,
Unfortunately, we have continued to allow Pluto to have a "dual citizenship" as a planet in the inner solar system and as an object in the Kuiper Belt.
Doubtlessly, culture has placed a strong sentimental value upon Pluto as a planet. But for the sake of "solar-fairness", Pluto should be reclassified as a Kuiper object along with other great objects in the Kuiper Belt.
Look at it with this array of optimism...While presently having a rather lowly status as a minuscule planet within the inner solar system, Pluto will be granted a lofty status as a mammoth in the Kuiper Belt.
Cynthia |
08.14.06 - 8:55 pm | #
|
|
Cynthia, dual citizenship is good.
The birds in the sky have it migrating from the northern hemisphere to the south in winter and back to the northern hemisphere in the summer. It is still said they are guided more by 'pathways' and air currents during their flight, rather than by geographical landmarks or features below.
All men and women should have dual nationality. Then they can migrate when their country declares false wars, and or migrate when employment opportunities are better ...
but most important migrate when the climate suits them most.
Of course Plutonians, Ice Queens and Antartica lovers, and skiers, obviously enjoy the white snow, and cannot wait for the peaks & pistes to be covered in the white stuff.
Not sure if the Kuiper Belt is on my list of to dos, but I'm sure with you as my guide I could be persuaded to go anywhere there is a dance in the great cosmic ballroom (and beyond)
