The minor north-south divide in Britain is much less than the major one in Italy. Look at this map to understand. In Italy, every region in the south is poorer than every region in the north. In no other country of Europe can you find such a strongly dichotomous pattern, only east-west Germany comes close, and that is because East Germany used to be communist. [Insult deleted. There's more to the story than just per capita GDP. There are other factors such as productivity, employment, education levels, living standards and life expectancy, which are described in the cited articles. Besides, it's already been shown that the official statistics for Southern Italy are inaccurate.
