I know. if ever we meet up i'll tell you the story of one of my rush hours going home via the underground and an elderly gent with parkinson's who tripped and fell. it did NOT go down like you describe. cold comfort, i know, but it is much worse down here in the states. take heart, tho, rada, there are more of you than there are of them...

I wish that were true.
The vast majority of us have turned into self-centred fuckwads, that's what's happened to us! If our society wasn't so fucking selfish and all consuming, this wouldn't have happened. People like to live with their heads up their asses and think someone else will look out for the blind, the deaf and the others in between who aren't capable of being an able bodied asshole like they are.
Chris' comments always make me laugh =)
But yeah, that's painful to watch. Why are people so afraid to lend someone else a helping hand? What are they so afraid of?

My blood pressure shot up 30 points reading that. Largely because of how true it is. I swear sometimes I want to just grab people around their complacent, unengaged little necks and scream: "What the hell is wrong with you?!".

wow that's beyond disgusting....humans are capable to the worst possible treatment to one another. We are still animals, after all.
It just breaks my mighty heart.
People who are visually impaired suffer such indignities, many of which are imposed upon them by our society, and many of which are totally avoidable. That was someone's friend, brother, dad, son! Why didn't anybody help him?

It's more and more the Toronto of today. It used to also induce a gasp to hear that someone got shot on the weekend...now it's de rigur.

I'm not exactly sure why someone wouldn't just instinctively react to help. I don't have an answer really..but let me tell you that I thought for a second about turning right and clipping the two shitheads who were standing next to him when they got to the other side of the road.

I had the same reaction.
I was really upset by what I saw.
I so rescued a raisin on a bus once (August 16, 2003 if you wanna check my archives), so I guess that kinda makes me not an asshole. However, tooting my horn about it in these comments kinda does make me an asshole.
