For some of us dads, kids come first, too. Being a single dad has had a singularly damping effect on my engineering career. Fortunately I'm in a job where I can work at home 100% (an in fact, in another state from my employer).

I'm sure that it has. Just like any time away from a field would. I think that employers still see women as the primary caregivers and pay them with the expectation that they will not be as reliable as soon as the first child is born. The secretary at the school usually calls mom at work first.


Not just women with children. Most employers still pay women less than their male counterparts. And even less for women of color. So much for equal opportunity and equality in the work place.

Good point...as well as female dominated fields. Nursing, Daycare...and so on.
