Geeze, Forrest, citing "Screw them Kos" on my site as a legitimate news source to back up your idiocy? To make matters worse for you, you obviously don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about, since Paez was NOT filibustered by Republicans... the vote on Paez was held up because DEMOCRATS were filibustering a nominee that Orrin Hatch had submitted, Ted Stewart.
That's right, Democrats stalled a nominee during their own party's administration. And now, in true Democrat style, you want to somehow claim it was Republicans doing it.
For what it's worth, Paez was confirmed.

If you would actually read the Kos posting, you'd see what I'm referring to. The quote from Republican Senator Smith of NH, which reads:
But don't pontificate on the floor of the Senate and tell me that somehow I am violating the Constitution of the United States of America by blocking a judge or filibustering a judge that I don't think deserves to be on the circuit court because I am going to continue to do it at every opportunity I believe a judge should not be on that court. That is my responsibility. That is my advise and consent role, and I intend to exercise it. I don't appreciate being told that somehow I am violating the Constitution of the United States. I swore to uphold that Constitution, and I am doing it now by standing up and saying what I am saying.
Thats the hypocrisy.
Oh and by the way, what was all that bravado about you claiming that the filibuster would end? Think again.
The wheels are coming off the wagon.

Thanks for the post, anonymous. Based on your IP address, I see you're host is in Amsterdam. Interesting that our political process is being followed by folks so far away, but I'm glad to see it.
As for the filibuster of Abe Fortis, which your link to the CBS news story refers to, 24 Republicans and 19 Democrats opposed the elevation of Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas to the position of chief justice of the United States because there was an ethical concern that Fortas had taken money from the Wolfson Foundation, which had been funded by tainted money, and he was receiving an astronomical sum for a few moments of lecturing at American University.
But most importantly, the Fortas filibuster was not aimed to derail a final vote. It was to enable further information to be elicited. The scandal was unfolding.
In addition, the Democrats were also involved in the filibuster, and President Johnson withdrew the nomination. So there wasn't any final effort by a Senate minority to prevent a vote. It was the President who chose to withdraw the nomination.
