no, I'm pretty sure it's not a prank. it's light-hearted and the conclusions are a joke (morphological convergence between an ungulate and primates), but the analysis is real.

Clearly, the Yeti are related to Centaurs. It explains so much, and yet opens up so many new mysteries.

At the risk of killing the joke with analysis:

It's a nice sly comment on human cognition, failing to apply common sense about evidence collection before jumping into the heavy-duty part of science. This kind of thing is going on in social sciences all the time.
