I'm glad to see that you have enough time on your hands to do some really important pieces of research.

I guess that a lot depends on where porn films are made. After the fall of the Soviet Empire, porn industries grew up in Eastern Europe, where regulation was lax and there were plenty of attractive girls willing to do almost anything for next to nothing. I believe the world porn centre (apart from California) is Budapest.

The Russian porn industry is vast, but most of the actresses appear to be amateurs or small-timers, rather than professional stars per se. I don't have any statistical evidence to back me up, but my research has been exhaustive nonetheless.

It would also be interesting to see which countries produce how many adult film participants -- you only see "stars" on Wikipedia, not the ones who want some quick money and decide to do a movie. That would presumably correlate with national average time preference (high time prefs ~ more likely to do an adult movie).

A fair number of those Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian stars are actually Gyspies, btw. I was curious about this topic once too and looked into that. Off the top of my head, Tera Joy is full, Nikita Denise is half-Gypsy / half-Slovak, and there are others I don't recall. Some keep it private due to discrimination.

However there are many porn stars who have taken Irish stage names, most famously Jerry Butler - who is of course Jewish and from Brooklyn.

FWIW, I second Roissy's observation about the temperament of girls of Irish descent. There's a striking addiction among these girls to a pattern that goes 1) starry-eyed-lass charmed by a poet, 2) betrayed-vengeful-jealous harridan when she discovers he drinks too much and doesn't bring in any income, to 3) bitter, pot-throwing martyr. Even if you, as the boy, don't play into that particular script, they'll impose it on you anyway.

This fits what I heard in West Germany around 1982 - Hungarians make the best porn. OK, these figures say they're second to Czechs - but note that that was their reputation 7 years before the fall of Communism.

The famous Victorian era porn writer, Frank Harris, enjoyed success everywhere getting what he wanted, save among one group of females--the Irish. Irish girls were impervious to his charms and cajoling. This didn't include prostitutes of which Dublin had many, information enshrined for posterity by James Joyce. However, among civilian females, Irish women gave him the cold shoulder. He attributed this to the Confessional.

While purely anecdotal, when examining my own porn viewing habits, which is mostly looking at pictures of pretty naked women, I am no longer surprised to find that the women I like the most are Hungarian or Czech. I suppose the numbers of porn stars from both may be largely due to economic factors, thus increasing the chance of finding one who matches my aesthetic desires. On the other hand, this is smack in the middle of Europe and that can hardly be coincidence.

(Interestingly both Heidi Klum and Claudia Schiffer were both born in North Rhine-Westphalia. Another non-coincidence?

Also note the number of beauty pageant winners from Venezuela. Venezuela had a huge influx of Europeans following WWII. This, I think, is the result. [For the record, perhaps the most beautiful women I've ever met was when I was in Valencia, Venezuela.])

It correlates with religiosity: the majority of Czech are atheists and the Irish are very Catholic.

The real reasons that you don't find too many Irish porn stars may be the following factors:

1 - We are a very small country, with a small population. The larger the population, the more porn actors.

2 - EVERYBODY knows everyone here! No chance of being anon.

3 - We're far more secular than Catholic these days, but that part of the culture may play a part.

4 - Too small a population for a viable native adult industry.

For the record, my own (rather broad!) experience of Irish women confirms that they are as sexual, kinky and desireable as women the world over. Very passionate, naughty, though more so in relationships than one-night stands. Generally sex occours here as part of a relationship, however brief. But with the advent of the Tiger, an expanding population, much that once was has now changed. Irish women are no more inhibited than other women, and with the right partner, inflammable. Economic factors also apply.

Regarding the Hungarians; I once read an review of a book on cursing and learned that Hungarians are the most cursing people, often using religious imagery. It is, after all, the home of the vampire queen elisabeth. I think it had to do with Hungary being a central Euro country, crisscrossed and crosscrissed. People tend to be attached to a religion if they had to fight to keep it. If the religion was forced on them, they are less attached, more hostile. Most Hugarians were kept Catholic forcibly, or so I read.
