I read somewhere that the number of Somalians coming to the Twin Cities has plummeted in recent years. Perhaps this gives us a breather to deport the criminal element among them. I can't imagine that the law would require us to shelter criminals, refugee or not.

Gravatar I'm usually not one to generalize about people based on ethnicity - but, damn, the Somalis are just whacked.

There's a rather large contingent of them in our high school. All of the other kids walk on tenterhooks around them. They're violent, quickly and easily triggered, they consistently jump people in groups, they walk eight abreast down a hallway and knock kids out of the way, and they're just effin' beastial to the Somali girls.

My son was waiting to get into his locker one day while the girl at the next locker, a Somali, was pulling her books out. A Somali boy saw this, walked over, smacked the girl across the head - hard! - knocking her to the floor - and told my son "you don't wait for a female to move, you move her!"

My kids have friends at school from pretty much every race you can imagine. But no one - from any group - befriends the Somalis. They're just too primitive and full of rage.

Gravatar Was Lileks okay?

Gravatar One thing that really angers me about the rise in crime in the Twin Cities is that there are so many people living here who were refugees from violence and lawlessness in their homelands, and came here because of the promise of peace and security. Instead, they are forced to endure the same old crap. How many crimes in the Twin Cities are unreported because the thugs are taking advantage of people who are still learning the ways and language of their new country, and don't know what to do or where to go after they have been victimized?

If you think a wave of robberies and assaults will wake up the socialists, think again.....

their is a gang rape wave in Sweden and Norway, yet everyone looks the other way..

WHEN it happens here, I'm betting Minnesotans shall react the same way... sigh...

Gravatar I don't know why I wrote "their" instead of "there"-- how embarrassing.... ugh

Gravatar An opinion, but just because MPls. has all these marathons, fairs, events, downtown entertainment doesn't mean that the city has a great future for residential living. It is already an unsafe place to live in and in a decade will be a rat hole.
three things come to mind: a story about the police doing fewer investigations, another about a whole bunch of brand new high rise condos in the city not selling, and the general lack of communication with the public regarding crime (such as the U of M incidents).
I think most people don't want Mpls. to get worse, but absoluately nothing seems to be changing and it has some of the signs of a city on the decline (at least for living in).

Gravatar Read this article:

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/.../4/ 164415.shtml

The article is a few years old but quite prophetic, as evidenced by the growing chaos at home.

Gravatar crap,
that is an interesting article. coming from someone who lives in a changing neighborhood, I sure can see why so many people are moving out to the boonies.
many people i know say the twin cities is just getting too strange. and they are not talking about long time n.mpls residents.

Gravatar Apparently camera's aren't doing much good in DC. Wonder if the boy mayor is paying attention.

Gravatar jb, don't you know that Lileks calls it a day around 2am?

crap, that article is crap. Per MN statute 517.03, marriages between first cousins are still prohibited in MN. I'm also fairly certain that there's no school in St Paul that teaches exclusively in Hmong.

Soooo, it's ok for Somalis to rob people, but they can't let them in their cabs if those people are carrying alcohol?

Gravatar Crap, the article IS crap, in so many ways. There is so much incorrect, misleading information in the article (and others in the series I glanced at) that I won't even go into it. My flesh is crawling right now. Who is the FREAK who wrote this garbage?

And, bobby_b--Somalis "whack"? People casually throwing around dismissive terms about an entire group of people makes my flesh crawl, too.

We PURPOSELY put our son in a school with a significant Somali population for the diversity and the hope that future generations will understand each other better. It's a high-achieving school, where, yes, even the Somali students are achieving.

I hope I can go to bed tonight believing that what we are trying to do will have more of an effect on this community than the hate spewed on this blog and on other sources.

Gravatar I see very little hate on this blog. Last time someone put in the N-word, Rambix edited his sorry ass right out. There is a ton of anger about what is going on out there--who can blame them--but no one is really hating. My family, as well as myself, are made up of many ethnic minorities--if I thought this blog was hateful, I wouldn't touch it.

Gravatar i agree to everything what is said being an indian myself i dont find anything rascist here but rather the truth . i feel so terribly bad that these somalis were given here refuge because of viloence back in their country and now when they got a peaceful and prosperous place to live they are going against the law...this is called laziness.. they should never be given refuge anywhere because they will be doomed to do same mistake anywhere...the only they should have done is to work hard like any other citizen and lead a happy life but rather misusing the oppurtunity they got here. i guess its time they get deported, then everyone will learn a lesson...
