what pissed me off is a month or so back, the star trib attributed a murder to minneapolis police taking down a guy who pulled a gun on them. they changed it later.
a system that will work:
1.change the sentencing to stiffer
time
2.more officers
3.use legitimate profiling.
it is so simple.
There's an updated story on the Strib where they talk with the neighbor. I'm always hesitant to believe the feel good speak in the Strib but it sounds like the victim may really have been a good kid. Either way I found this section very disturbing:
""It's not a surprise anymore," Joann Eggelston said of shootings.
Eggleston, whose son was also friends with Knox, called on the governor and mayor to show their support for the area by making appearances when shootings happen and also by funding programs for idle youth."
It's not a surprise that people are being shot on a regular basis??? If this isn't a surprise then maybe rather than calling for midnight basketball maybe you should be calling for more aggressive policing! As far as I'm concerned these thugs are no less lawless than the "insurgents" (terrorists) in Iraq and should be dealt with accordingly.
Yup but we're wasting all of our resources, sticking our noses where they don't belong in THAT quagmire.

My blog has the murder count at 52 as of today. As you say, though, it's tough to get an accurate count.
I could easily miss one in my news searching, but I try.
