I'd be interested to find out if there has been a recent increase in the number of illegal aliens in Duluth? I know Northfield has had an increase.
When we let just anyone settle in our country, we often find thats some of them left their hoome country for legal reasons. Others just find the United States an much softer target than their own country.
Yes, there are foreigners converging on Duluth--from exotic places like Chicago and the paradise on Lake Michigan--otherwise known as Gary, Indiana. Crack and heroin are sold at higher prices in Duluth--dealer from MPLS and Chicago go there to get more cash for their wares.
The article says:
"He has 132 sworn officers, 14 fewer than authorized -- and 40 fewer than the number he needs to avoid pulling officers out of community policing."
But we're not told just how many officer slots were cut - and how the budgeting process caused this. "14 fewer than authorized" - ? So, he can hire 14 more, but he hasn't had time? I'm left wondering if this isn't another red herring from the Strib about how we've starved government.

The Duluth paper had a story a couple of months ago how there are few immigrants in Duluth (legal or illegal) because, well, there are few job opportunities there. There is no reason for someone to move there if no had few resources to begin with.
But as stated above, the gangs from such lovely cities as Gary and Detroit have been trying to set up shop for years. Looks like they are finally making big inroads in Duluth.
Looks like Bergson getting on the cover of Lavender magazine as Minnesota most gay friendly mayor hasn't helped with crime much.
Sundays Strib used one of their classic typical headlines again:
Drive by shooting kills teen.
Like my favorite "SUV kills man", the tactic (or object) did not do the shooting.
A gang banging criminal did.
Of course, the victim was 'a good boy...who never dod anything wrong'.
The Strib even used 'do rag' in the lead paragraph.

since we get the highest number of unscreened fleeing ghetto-dwellers and foreign refugees in the whole U.S., i think there is bound to be some public safety problems.

Why always compare to Detroilet? Is that some mystical goal? I don't understand why its okay to justify n-1 people murdered here because n people are murdered in there.

50 have been murdered in Mpls. We shouldn't whine? Tell that to the dead. They're dead, but it's okay, because its not as many as in Detroilet. In 2005, there were 359 murders there. The FBI reports that the rate is up 17% this year. If we use 2005 numbers, does that mean that 308 more people can be murdered in Mpls and we shouldn't whine because it's not as bad as Detroilet? And Duluth is less than the national average. Well, that's swell. Tell that to the families of the dead. They shouldn't whine, the rate is lower. So what if they lost a loved one, the numbers say it's not that bad. Don't make the liberals look bad, instead hide behind innocuous numbers.
Maybe the libs should stop whining about the citizens carrying handguns to defend themselves.

yes we live in America, the greatest country on Gods green Earth. That is exactly why I beleive we can do better. NYNY faced a much larger problem and turned it around. We can too.
However, we won't do it until our "leadership" decides it needs to do something or they will lose power.
