Gravatar I think the two main types of meditation to learn are a simple quiet type like you describe and one 'active visualization' type for when the quiet type just isn't going to happen.

I learned Mantak Chia's 'microcosmic orbit' a long time ago, so I use that, but any technique that includes a step-by-step thing to trick the mind into focusing inwardly and chilling is the target. I use it when I'm not able to get the simple meditation going.
