You know, the thing that makes me so sad about these attempts at remakes is that they end up dumbing down the escense of the original release. Don't get me started on what they do to Asian horror when they Americanize it (gah, part of what makes it so creepy is that you actually have to ponder what is going on, instead of bludeoning us to death with the premise!).
Sadly, somebody must like these things, cause I operate under the assumption that film studios are corporations, and produce product that will make them money.
Now the only question is who?!
(BTW, I have a guilty confession to make - I sorta liked the first Alien Vs. Predator... the plot was terrible, but there WERE aliens fighting predators....)

Nice to know that I'm not the only one who disliked his work. For a while it seemed that I was the only one.
I can't disagree either. I've only seen a few of his remakes, mostly on television where they belong. I cannot forgive him, though, for Transformers. For a long time I heard that it actually wasn't as bad as people predicted it would be, and that it was quite a spectacular movie. So one day I decided to watch in in lieu of studying calc.
Huge mistake on so many levels.
By the way, a heads-up: IMDB has him listed as producing a remake of The Birds, and Bay has announced Transformers 2 already. Head for the hills.
What the hell was wrong with the Newer Transformer movie I thought it was good...lacking in story but wasnt the Tv series? The First one....87 or 89 was horrible and was just a way to kill of the characters for the Gen Two stuff... so I have to disagree with the Trandformers part being a Huge Fan my whole life i thougt the wat the 2007 movie was done well and seemed far more plasible in real life to actully happen that way. But I agree that he Never should have Remade many of those movies but Tranfomers needed a over haul seriously, Have u seen what cartoonnetwork did to it... crap.. the last good one was Beast Wars.
Yeah, the new transformers was crap. And yeah, the old one wasn't supposed to be good. But I still expected a little better out of Michael Bay.

Yeah the American remakes of J-Horror have been fairly lousy. In my opinion only the remake of The Ring really brought an interesting take on the original.
As to the question of who goes to see these crap fests, I think that many people just want something to see on a Friday night and will give most movies a shot even f they look bad. Most of these films have big opening weekends, but then fall off after word of mouth gets around. Unfortunately a big opener is sometimes all that is needed to perpetuate the cycle of dung.

Completely agree about Transformers. I had heard going into the movie that the dialogue was \"not that great\". That was the understatement of the year. Every time someone spoke in that film I wanted to stick socks in my ears.
Still, I was told that the robot battles more than made up for the lackluster story.
This is the part I really don't get.
To me all the fight scenes looked like a big bundle of unidentifiable metal rolling around on the ground or flying through the air. Eventually half the bundle would stand up indicating a victor.
Frankly I thought the fight choreography was more muddled and confusing than Dare Devil and that's saying something.
So don't feel bad about saying it sucked. It did.
