Hatemongering Christian style is Mr. Waren's profession. Obama's just another cynical politician who says what he needs to say to get our money and into office. He's a fraud and a liar and now we know. Again, why is't David Duke going to be at the inaugural to heal wounds with African-Americans. Oh yeah, it's only Jews and gays and that get the shaft from Obama. terry | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:05 pm Direct link to this comment
Freud would say that his true attitude toward gays is that they belong in an oven just like the pizza! What a fucking idiot! His comments are oh so Palinesque! Jerk! Sam | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:28 pm Direct link to this comment
Rick Warren is putting his foot in his mouth better than anyone.
I didn't like it at first, but now I'm happy Obama made the selection. Finally we can shine a big fat spotlight on Rick Warren to show everyone his small minded bigotry. geo | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:30 pm Direct link to this comment
They need to cancel Rick Warren's appearance for the inaguration. A substitute can be found that's a not controversial. They apparently did a similar thing to Rev. Jeremiah Wright at Obama's Presidential canidacy kickoff invocation. You would have hoped they would have learned from that experience.
This particular choice, at this time, seems to throw salt into the wound of the Cal. Prop. 8 controversy, Why risk inciting the protestors? Why place the upcoming inaguration under the spectre of large scale protest at the exact moment we need to come together as a nation.
I think the Obama administration, can do better than this. They can select a unifying and inspirational individual that can deliver the presidential invocation without controversy, the American people need and deserve a protest free inaguration, we need at least a moment in time to look to the future together, and contemplate how we each can contribute to our collective future. portland oregon | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:33 pm Direct link to this comment
All religious types are irrational. That's the premise of religion, believing in the unknowable.
Does it really matter which irrational person talks to the invisible man upstairs at Obama's inauguration?

No, he likens gays to people who like pizza... not to pizza, and urges them to go on weight reduction program. Read the last paragraph.
Of course gays are like people who like food... that is, just like all of us... and they should be permitted to eat food, just like all of us... and to say blessings before they do so. mike | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:50 pm Direct link to this comment
Our Saddleback Church offer more weight-watchers meetings to overeaters than any other evangelical megachurch on the west coast."
So the bigot is throwing out code that he believes in the soundly debunked concept of "ex-gay" ministering. Ian | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:58 pm Direct link to this comment
Notwithstanding my previous comment, he also seems to liken gays to pizza... something that he can hardly resist (?), before he makes it clearer.
"I like pizza... but that doesn't make it a sanctifiable lifelong relationship... because the resulting child's friends will make fun of them...." he seems to say, at least "in his world" (and what is he doing to change his world? nothing, because he likes the consequence of mockery, and views it as an unchangable reflection of God's plan.... Children know best, after all (as we learn from Lord of the Flies ?)
Bottom line... gay love and pizza love are just addictions to be dealt with... nothing to do with man-woman love which is on a different level. You can sort of figure that out from his words... but he sure isn't clear about it.
He sounds confused... but in the end he's just using sloppy language... there's no doubt about what he really thinks. mike | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 1:59 pm Direct link to this comment

Those last three paragraphs are like something out of the Onion. I can hardly believe Warren took his gays = pizzas analogy as far as he did, but since he did, I hope there's going to be massive pizza-related jokes from all the late-night hosts.
This is a deliberate move by Obama to permanently shut out GLBT, women and atheists. Billy Graham, mainstream and not a crackpot evangelical, gave the invocation at both of Bill Clinton's inaugurations.
Warren's comment is another variation of the "lifestyle choice" lie. Medical science has left the lie behind for decades now, but Warren wants to pretend gayness is a choice, like whether to eat pizza. When did you choose to be straight, Rick? theresa mitchell | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 2:42 pm Direct link to this comment

McLean, Virginia -- Pastor Rick Warren is an outstandingly offensive creature.
Thank God, George W. Bush is finally leaving our government.
It is totally inconceivable to me that anyone of Warren's ilk could possibly be chosen to deliver any speech at President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.
Like millions of others, my wife and I worked hard to support Obama's campaign and we have been very happy to see his election. However, it is now apparent that the President-elect's choice has put him in a very bad situation. If he withdraws this invitation, he will ensure the complete revolt of American evangelists and their lasting condemnation. No matter how justifiable, such a withdrawal would be nearly impossible.
I am completely secure in my decision to hold this issue as an unforgivable deal-breaker.
I cannot accept the President-elect's choice. I hope and pray that he may find some graceful way out of his quandary, but I am comfortable with my decision.
Warren:
Compares us to pedophilia, and polygamists. He also was very vocal in his support for Opposition 8, which was another way of saying that we don't have the right to exist. He also strangely uses food [a slice of pizza] as justification for his anti-gay bullshit.
BTW, Speaking of food, as soon as Warren chucks a few rocks at a guy eating a shrimp cocktail, I'll start thinking about giving him some latitude.
Huckabee:
Huckabee further offends us by telling us that being offended by Warren is ridiculous, thereby further dismissing us, and at the same time, showing us how really clueless he [Huckabee] is.

Is it just me or does everyone recognize that this Warren guy is, in reality, gay? I had already believed this before I heard him delve into his take on the sensual pleasure of gay sex. Hey, Pastor Warren, its okay... you can be gay... nobody cares (oh, yeah, except your fucking donors).
I'm a heterosexual, and I love pizza too. But I can't imagine gay sex to be anything like eating pizza... it seems that Rick warren can. Hmmm.... Kevin | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 3:55 pm Direct link to this comment

An alliance of black conservative christians and white conservative christians with similar voting records and gay racist rhetoric is forming with the onset of the Obama Administration. Al Sharpton as is Obama is not only defending Rick Warren; but, they are condoning his gay racist hate speech by doing so.
There is no justification acceptable to the gay community to have calculated this selection against the interests of the gay community. It was completely avoidable, choosing Warren and the gay community backlash was anticipated and dismissed as a minimal consequence, this after the direct implication of the black vote in California's Prop 8 being a major contribution to it's success.
The one thing that this selection of Warren has done is opened the eyes of the gay community about the extreme voting sentiments against the gay community that the black voting community has proven repeatedly. A conservative christian voter, be they black or white, is not a friend of the gay community. Anthony Look | Homepage | 12.21.08 - 8:48 pm Direct link to this comment
I wonder if Obama would have Rick Warren give the invocation if he compared interracial marriages
to be nothing more than incest and Pedophilia.
That he would want to declare their marriages null and void.

I doubt Rick Warren is a pigf----r but he most certainly is a fat pig. He should be roasted over a spit for about three days, then have his fat carcass winched onto a specially fabricated reinforced platter, and have have an extra large red apple stuffed into his fat jowls. This would certainly be a more appropriate setting for this lardass than standing in front of a podium giving a phony invocation. He is about as holy as Hitler.
