You got that right. I love these so-called Christians who believe they have a corner on goodness. Let's get religion out of politics. Another s____ thing that Bush started. Lynne | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 3:45 pm Direct link to this comment
But, it's not just the candidates and GOP. It' many self-avowed Christians, themselves. JAG | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 5:07 pm Direct link to this comment
Probably because many of the older christian rightwingers were members of the KKK, It's hard to teach an Old dog new tricks. douglas | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 5:32 pm Direct link to this comment
This is so true! The feelings of many, showing all the signs and talking all the talk that IS the KKK. There are areas of this country that Teach this, Preach this, Live this and actively practice this... swtcltinlyh | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 5:34 pm Direct link to this comment
You can call yourself a Christian all day long but your actions (as the saying goes) speaks louder than words. Jesus taught his followers to love everyone regardless of race. The republicans who do this are not Christians, but they are hypocrites. skyreader7 | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 5:35 pm Direct link to this comment
I've been saying that, for years! For too long, the media has been treating christianists and televangelists, and holy politicians as if they were sacrosanct, and their every utterance as though from God Himself. Finally, someone in the media who actually has some exposure to the supposed source fo Christian ideology (the Bible) has found the intestional fortitude to call them on their distortions and hypocrisy. If those people actually believed in what the Bible says, they wouldn't have the nerve to perpetrate the kinds of atrocities they favor, for fear of repercussions in the afterlife. judyinnm | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 5:46 pm Direct link to this comment
Meyerson is a CHAMP, NO QUESTION! The GOP has become RACIST, FASCIST and OBSTRUCTIONIST at a time when ALL Americans should be pulling together to puyll US troops out of Iraq & Afganistan as 'Genocidal Occupiers'!
Huckbee has taken Christianity to an ALL-TIME low in America with his vile, low HUCKSTERISM of Religion all across the nation wherever he goes!
The GOP-ers have plumbed the DEPTHS! Joseph Conrad | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 5:57 pm Direct link to this comment
I really think the christianists are confused between the words "worship" and "warship" - and they're more into the latter... judyinnm | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 6:19 pm Direct link to this comment
Ah, so the religious right is good enough to be constantly manipulated into playing attack dog by the corporate fascists who've taken over our country-- War on Christmas, Terri Schivo, gays want to take over the country, etc.-- but even they quiver when that dog threatens to slip the leash. Bummers, ya' damn nazis, bummer. G.I. | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 6:38 pm Direct link to this comment
The relationship between fascism and Christianity is solid.
Why can Muslims attack us and Islam be a religion of war as stated in the Koran and when Virgil Goode says stop Muslim immigration he is attacked as a bigot? WaPo should turn this criticism on Islam first. Fallaci Admirer | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 7:09 pm Direct link to this comment
fallaci: in case you were not aware there have been some incidents of 'Christian' nations meddling in mid east affairs long before 9/11. naboo | Homepage | 12.19.07 - 7:35 pm Direct link to this comment

Religion does not equal morality. Religion is just another man-made organization. That's why the republicans and rightwingers have been able to corrupt and hijack so many religious groups (social clubs).
This is also where Romney falls down. He obviously believes religion is the same as morality or "goodness". Just join the club and be a loyal follower (do and believe what you're told) and you are by definition a good Christian who will be rewarded in the afterlife. -WRONG- Many Christian social clubs have completely forgotten the moral teachings of Jesus. The current Republicans running for president do climb that "mountain of moral, and mortal" hypocritical CRAP that is the Christianized Republican Party of today. A corrupt and ugly frat-boys' club of DUNCES. darker | Homepage | 12.20.07 - 2:24 am Direct link to this comment
The KKK was not a majority in the US Military .
The Taliban and the christian extremists have the exact same goal. religious governmnet.
The difference between Pat Robertson, Falwell, hagee and Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban is only symbolic in nature.
If the christian extremists had as little power as the taliban they would be using suicide bombers too. Dr Richrad Blackmoor | Homepage | 12.20.07 - 6:55 am Direct link to this comment

A real Christian would:
Support universal state health care.
A real Christian would:
Oppose any form of torture. And Christians all know a little something about torture.
A real Christian would:
Oppose the amount of church money being used to peddle influence at politicians and companies. church money should be used to help members of the church and the local community of the church.
A real Christian would:
Stand up and shout down anyone who attempted to label someone elses religion as wrong. Because the christians should know a little something about religous intolerance.
A real Christian would:
Understand that Jesus was a liberal in his time and that progress and freedom were his goals, not keeping things the same as they always were.
A real Christian would:
Understand that Jesus was a proponent of seperation of church and state. "give unto ceaser that which belongs to ceaser" and all that.
A real Christian would:
Would be a middle of the road type moderate who respect tradition, but accepts that change happens.
A real Christian would:
Cry blood tears over how the christo-fascists are using their religion to prop up corrupt money political empires that have no respect for the christian ideals.
There are no real christians left. Just sheep in sheeps clothing, dumbly gnawing at the pissed on grass and "baahhing" when they hear the chorus of the rest of the sheep doing the same. Kevin the original tinfoil hat | Homepage | 12.20.07 - 9:35 am Direct link to this comment

The Right accuses Euthanasia supporters of "playing God", but what about when they support keeping people "alive" when they would clearly die without machines? Isn't artificially keeping people "alive" "playing God"? Left Wing Kraut | Homepage | 12.20.07 - 11:08 am Direct link to this comment
What exactly did the author, Jason Rhyne, contribute to this article? The entire thing is quotes from a different column. Prime example of internet clutter, just post a link next time! pete | Homepage | 12.20.07 - 11:14 am Direct link to this comment
Kevin: I would call Jesus a real Christian and he said: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
The point is, many people who are not Christians like a caricature of Jesus that is nebulous and politically Correct. But Jesus is anything but that.
The Christian faith hangs on one thing: Was Jesus God or was he not? If he was not then the Christian faith is empty and dead.
As the Apostle Paul says, "And if Christ has not been raised [From The Dead], your faith is futile..." David A. Leedom | Homepage | 12.20.07 - 11:42 am Direct link to this comment
And why would if be difficult to imagine the KKK as thinking of their mission as Christian? They absolutly embody Christianity. Murder, Hate, Torture, Punishment, Exclusion, These are the very tennants on which the Christian Church was founded. Think about it. "The GOP has become RACIST, FASCIST and OBSTRUCTIONIST"
Correction: The GOP hasn't BECOME this way--it has always BEEN this way. It just hasn't been made as obvious, until now, for those who haven't been watching closely.
Its not about Republicans v. Democrats, but democracy v. fascism.
Constitutionalist Republicans like Sen. Hagel, and everyone still respecting G.O.P. principles, must stand with Democrats against the threat of totalitarianism, that is, militant corporatism or fascism.
Let's get above and on top of the pain and shock of it and take care of business through unity. Zip it all back up.
