You have a point there, but Russia's been doing that for over a decade. I believe they have been selling nuclear weapons technology and materials for over a decade. So why now when he was defeated in this past election?

I believe the award should have gone to General Patraeus. Period.

TIME makes the excuse that it's Person of the Year indicates his/her enfluence on world events. Putin has enfluenced Russia, to be sure. But how has he changed the world? Selling nuke material to Iran? Should Iran detonate a nuclear device in the near future, then Putin's mug will be plastered not just on the cover of TIME, but on every world-wide publication.
