You'll never see the movie, so I'm assuming you won't care about further spoilers, but for anyone else who does:

The SATC movie is really not a story of a gung-ho Bridezilla and her poor, put-upon groom-to-be. It's more a story of a woman who gets caught up in the wedding industry machine in an increasing way and her twice-divorced groom who doesn't communicate his feelings well and ends up doing something destructive to his relationship as a result. Carrie's role in the events leading up to Big's actions does get discussed in no little detail as the movie goes on...but she certainly doesn't walk out on him, at least not from her perspective. (I think the getting caught up in the wedding insanity thing will be familiar to anyone who's ever found themselves saying, "Okay, we can invite your mother's best friend from third grade and her five kids, but do you realize that the guest list has now gone from 100 to 250 because of such invitations?")
Look, SATC is a movie told from a woman's point of view, much as certain other movies - "Sideways," for example - are movies from men's points of view. It certainly shows men as having real emotions and suffering real pain, and doesn't treat women as passive, blameless victims of mean ol' boys. We see considerably more of what the chicks are thinking because, well, this is a chick flick. Both my boyfriend (who volunteered to see the movie) and I thought that Lopez's review didn't quite reflect the movie that we'd seen.
And at no point in this movie do women complain about only being wanted for sex! Goodness, I've never seen the Bridget Jones movies - I've just read the books, which are apparently vastly different from the movies - but I think you've killed any desire I've had to see them.

Bridget Jones never makes that complaint either, actually. I'm simply wondering what these flicks are selling us chicks.

I'd say that Bridget Jones has a core plot: "Bridget Jones is totally screwed up, nearly ruins the only good relationship she's somehow managed to find herself in (several times!) and it's frankly a miracle she can even feed herself, yet if she grows up a bit or at least learns to just accept her good fortune she might actually be happy." I'm reasonably certain the viewer (I don't know about the books) is supposed to come away thinking Bridget is extremely lucky. Though honestly that may be in part because I have a deep and abiding crush on Colin Firth.
I disliked Sex and the City without watching it because it was obvious they all go around sleeping with anything that moves, and because I don't care about fashion, fancy food, or anything else they apparently valued (certainly, anything the commercials valued.) Also, it looked like it would probably be worth at least an "R" in the theatres, and I don't need more of that stuff in my head. The previews for the film seemed to indicate that Sarah Jessica Parker's (whom I dislike in general terms, for many reasons, including the fact that people like to call me that name) character was going to be a selfish, self-absorbed idiot -- either that or someone would die; I can never tell.
