One idea: Apply the I-cord or some other trim, like you mentioned. On the left side, pick up the stitches on the inside of the garter and tack the garter stitches down so you can't see them.

I forgot to do the garter stitch border as well and did a single chain crochet border instead and it worked out okay, the border is there for you to have something to sew the zipper to so it may not be noticeable.

I have no idea what you are talking about with the knitting. To my untrained eye, you are a master knitter. TinyE still cherishes her bumble bee slippers.
I have been meaning to tell you that I was on a flight with Rebecca Kolls of Rebecca's garden (smallest shoulder width to butt width ratio I've ever seen in my entire life, BTW) and she knitted the entire time.

I'd probably rip it out but I'm a little bit wacky. I'm sure the crochet suggestion would work and probably be noticable by nobody but yourself.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm strictly an independent, and pride myself on being fair when it comes to politics.
That said, why get angry about one show on PBS not being strictly liberal? It's not balanced to have everything but one show from the same viewpoint. I can turn on Fox News and get more varied and balanced opinions than I do from PBS.
"if these guys are truly conservative, they won't like the religious right dictating access to healthcare"
This is like saying that if you were truly liberal, you'd respect the opinions of an individual. After all, liberals are the ones who are supposed to be open minded and accepting of others, right? One has nothing to do with the other. For conservatives, it's an issue of whether or not one can let his or her religious beliefs influence their lives. Many people are themselves first and their careers second. There are doctors in Minneapolis who felt it wasn't appropriate that they can't pray with their patients, so they opened up a clinic where prayer is part of the deal.
Healthcare IS different than visiting a restaurant, but not by much. Pharmacies are a dime a dozen. People regularly choose one or the other on the basis of the quality of service or price.
Anyway, what it comes down to is respecting an individual's choice and religious beliefs. The patient has a choice in the matter, too - they can visit another pharmacy, or complain to the pharmacy supervisor, or go to Planned Parenthood, where they'll never run into that sort of problem.

I'm with you on the fact that knitting keeps me humble! It's my favorite "crafty" thing because of the very fact that there's always something new to learn. It's a thinking womans craft, for certain.

If you live in a small town, pharmacies are NOT a dime a dozen, but that is another discussion.
I agree, Renee, to compare pharmacies and restaurants is like comparing apples and oranges. And for pharmacists to decide what a customer can and can't have - absolutely ridiculous! If you don't like dispensing certain types of medications, then don't work in that profession.
I'm sorry, I'm being kind of incoherent, but this is an issue that really makes me crazy. Thanks for writing about it.

I agree with Eva--if you have a problem with birth control or Plan B, then you should not be a pharmacist, period. These drugs are LEGAL, and women should be able to get them if they and their doctors decide that it is appropriate for them.
As for PBS, they have a liberal reputation probably because they are government funded, but I don't necessarily think that their programming leans that way. I have not seen anything on PBS that made me as angry as some of the bias that I have seen on Network (Big 3) newscasts. The fact that they have a show with all conservative guys who all agree with each other is a bit of a surprise, though--that is just not good television, no matter how you slice it.
