How can you possibly think that Babette is hideous? It's lovely. And you're too modest, your crocheting skills are rather good. Besides, practice makes perfect. The next time I see you I'll show the scarf I made from One Skein- it took a bit to get into the rhythm of crochet but then it was super quick.
