I also seriously doubt that this petition will accomplish its goals. The office of the President at OBU does not hold all of the keys. Removing him will not solve problems. Trustees and VP's run the school, the prez does fund-raising.

Barretto! You have a blog!

Although I agree with Matt in stating that the petition will most likely fail in accomplishing its goals, it is a start. How else can the alumni or student body be heard? I think the administration of OBU has become numbed to complaints. They seem to assume (correctly I might add) that any display of dissent or dissatisfaction will soon fade out of the public eye and all they have to do is wait it out and change nothing.
And although this petition has the great potential of fading away with every other attempt of expressing dissatisfaction, it is a shot. It is an attempt. And we can either ignore it and do nothing or we can sign the stupid thing and at least try to let the trustees know we're unhappy with the present situation and that the removal of the university's leader is the best solution our minds miles and years removed from OBU can come up with. I'd like to think I'm not too cynical to sign the thing.

Gravatar Even after pledging, you can't spell my last name right, Lowber! That's alright, I guess. In all seriousness, thanks for checking out the blog. I'd love to hear what you think.

While I applaud the impetus behind the online petition, I think that its form and content created far more problemes than its creators anticipated. Unfortunately, most alumni of the school--having benefited from its instruction and academic inculcation--are no longer connected to what is happening at OBU. Even now, I don't feel like I know exactly what has become of our alma mater. All I know is the glossy material I receive in my mailbox every three months.

Before booting Brister, perhaps we as alumni might demand to be better informed of the state of the school. And I don't want to hear a sales pitch but an honest assessment. This may be too much to ask.

Gravatar A funny thing just happened to me this morning. Because of this petition thing, I spent a few minutes a few days ago surfing the OBU site and I stumbled upon an online OBU newsletter that you can sign up for. I signed up and a couple of days later, guess who gave me the conformation e-mail? None other than Zach Kincaid! or at least his computer which no one bothered to turn off...

Gravatar So, I guess they just fired your only hope of keeping informed on the goings on at OBU.
