Gravatar I wonder if this violates the ABM treaty in any way.

I think we just gave the Russians and China something to think about and did a public service at the same time.

Gravatar "The elaborate intercept may trigger worries from some international leaders"
....i sure as hell hope it does...

Gravatar It's a good thing we complained when China did this.

Gravatar "with a pinpoint missile strike that achieved the main mission of exploding a tank of toxic fuel 130 miles above the Pacific Ocean,"

Well, maybe those international leaders would rather the satellite disintigrated somewhere over their countries with all that toxic fuel.

Gravatar typical Foust.

Gravatar typical Foustian answer - cant seem to see the forest from the trees.

Gravatar Yes, Still, I'm sure they wanted to do this to protect the environment and to keep people from being exposed to hydrazine. They're known to be sensitive that way, sort of like the way they are about depleted uranium. And to think that the satellite never reached operation. At least all that defense money we spent on that satellite will trickle down to us. It even cost about $50 million to destroy, but that'll trickle down to us, too.

Gravatar Reagan is clapping in his grave today. Stars Wars looks to be here. To be able to pinpoint a moving object in space and have a direct hit is great news for our Missle Defense System. This is great news.

Gravatar This Foustian comment just slays me: "I'm sure they wanted to do this to protect the environment and to keep people from being exposed to hydrazine"

Why not? Just think of the anti-American publicity it would be if the thing actually did disintigrate somewhere in the world. The U.S.A. has enough problems with public relations. So the money was worth it.

And I admire them for killing two birds with one stone---getting safely rid of a toxic space object AND getting closer to Star Wars. Real sense above is right. It's great news!!!

Gravatar Can I synopsize Mr. Foust my friends?
We do something incredibly awesome. (WE being US)....-laugh laugh.
Our country shoots down a SPY...GASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSP, satellite, with a US NAVY ship in the middle of the largest ocean on the planet. AND.....
Foust XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, makes a comment about how we (supposedly) objected when China did something likewise or similar.
Foust said: ((It's a good thing we complained when China did this.))
2 thoughts.
1) Foust, WE, has meaning. WE....means US. US means the U.S.A.. Foust XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX......of course WE root for US. Of course WE/US do not root for CHINA to have the MILITARY capabilities and achievements equal to ......US. Are you a speech writer for Michelle Obama???
2)Why do LIBXXXXS, find FAULT with AWESOME ACHIEVEMENTS by .......US.......(which equals) WE. And why do FOUST boys, call themselves WE, when the don't root for................US!!!!
When WE achieve something, WE should be happy.
When THEY achieve something. Not so much.

Mickey I love your passion but tone down the name calling please. (Fred)
