...I'll do everything in my power to see that you are out of your post as Mayor as soon as possible.

I hope that includes running for Mayor.

Just tell me what I can do to help.
Time for Downtown Racine Blog Talk Radio show to make a come back.

In a city that will not hire 200 police officers we are going to tell Illegals to move to Racine
What ids going on?

Gravatar As a former elected official, it disgusts me to see Gary gave this group the time of day.

Although, since nothing happened to the thugs who trespassed on my property at night, maybe Gary's worried it'll happen to him if he doesn't "get in line....."

Like it or not, guys, intimidation works (on the cowardly that is!)

Gravatar There are a couple of facets to this story that I would like to comment on.

1. Criminals don't get to decide their own punishment, nor do they deserve a voice in the debate. I could not possibly care less what illegal aliens have to say about the rights they receive in this country. They have one right that matters: the right to leave.

2. That said, people on both sides of the aisle turned a blind eye to the immigration issue for years, and many people came to this country, in good faith, and with the best of intentions, based on the tacit approval of all levels of government. Those who came here, worked hard, otherwise obeyed the law, and by their conduct demonstrated themselves to be worthy of citizenship should have a path to achieve it.

3. On the other hand, those who came here, committed crimes, or illegally received taxpayer funded benefits such as welfare should be deported immediately.

4. We have both the right and the obligation to control our borders and determine who we allow into this country. Our national sovereignty is not open for debate - so build a fence now, and from now on let's control immigration from Mexico using the same standards we use to govern immigration from anywhere else.

5. As part of that controlled access, create a mechanism for certain industries, like agriculture, to gain access to the seasonal workforce they need by allowing temporary worker status - and make sure that those who overstay their welcome or abuse the hospitality of this country are deported without any possibility of return.

Gravatar Yay Lou.

Becker is playing to the great american fear of being racist. While racism may be part of some people's motivation against immigration, I really hate when people try to avoid serious debate on a topic by smearing the other side with the race card.

Gravatar You are all correct.

My biggest problem is that Becker is throwing around the race card where it does not exist.

I know the Racine VDLF head Maria Morales thinks if you are opposed to illegal immigration you are a racist but I expected more from Mayor Becker.

This is a follow the law issue and Mayor Becker just invited a bunch of law breakers to Racine.

Well done Gary.

Gravatar Colt-

Please, please, please stop spreading the false information that the city will not hire the full compliment of officers. We are in a hiring phase right now. The chief is authorized and able to hire 199 police officers (blame the city council for that number - we approved the budget). Hiring cops is a slow process and there is a huge batch of retirements looming that he has to keep up with.

By the way, this coming Monday, 8 new patrol officers are starting.

I understand that you have issues with the Grant Writer job. (FYI - the only constituent feedback I got on that during the budget process was one person in favor of it.) Your point that we could use that money for Police personnel is a fair one. A fair counter point is that the Grant Writer position can bring in a lot of dollars to the city that currently do not have and that may do more overall for the city than a 0.5% increase in police staffing.

There are lots of ways to approach issues and it oversimplifies things to say we would rather have a grant writer than a police officer. You could also say we would rather have a grant writer than a snow plower, parks worker, or secretary.

I'm sorry to take this off topic, but the allegation that the city refuses to hire police is simply not true.

Gravatar Thanks for the feedback Greg.

Gravatar Great comments Lou, and I agree 100%.

And this comment is revealing and causes a whole lot of mischief in every area of life: "based on the tacit approval of all levels of government."

When laws are not enforced as they stand, tacit approval can be assumed. And that means people continually push the envelope. So either enforce the laws or change them. But to leave things in suspended animation like this is asking for endless trouble.

That principle holds in public life as well as in personal life. If I ignore profanity within my home, then I am giving tacit approval, and the other person can rightfully assume that it's OK to use such language. If I enforce my rules, on the other hand, the other person will know where he stands and the risks he/she is taking when they use such language in my home---and the risk is that they will be asked to leave or watch their mouth.

Same goes for immigration laws. If you don't enforce them, then those streaming in here illegally do have the right in a way to assume it's OK with us----which is what has been happening for years.

One cannot really blame the illegal immigrants who come here for a better standard of living, but one has to place the blame where it lies----squarely with the lack of enforcement of our immigration laws by our government.

I agree with all the steps that Lou has outlined above to solve this problem once and for all. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with upholding the laws of our country and controlling our own borders.

Gravatar And then, of course, you have the foolish politicians who confuse racism with enforcing the law. Good going Mayor!!!

Gravatar I am surprised you brought the police officer debate to this forum rather then talking to me via phone or email.
I believe what you tell me I will also call the PIO and confirm the numbers.
I could go on about both issues and will on my blog talk radio show .
Fred could you perhaps write something on the Grant Writer so we could talk about it in the right forum?

Gravatar My thoughts on this issue can be found on my blog talk radio show.

Gravatar Write it up colt and I'll post it as a guest post.

Gravatar FYI Colt, it always helps to give people a link.

Gravatar I am a poor writer I wish I could transcribe my show. I had to delete the first one.

Gravatar I've noticed their acronym has an additional letter to spell out SUFRIR - to suffer! How exactly are these illegals suffering when they're able to work in our country, attend our schools, and freely demonstrate on public property during school hours while wasting our taxpayer money, all without having to abide by our immigration laws?

Cathy - I think you've nailed it! Intimidation does work and looks like Becker has easily succumbed.

Gravatar Give it a try Colt... Glad to have your input.

The political BTR is above Green Racine is the BTR on being Green.
Your right Fred I should have posted it my bad sorry

Gravatar I had my number off by one. Seven officers are starting on Monday.

Gravatar 7 new offices minus the 4 who are retiring (at least 4) is + 3 so from 193
we go to 196 (minus how many more?) so we are still running in place.

Gravatar Greggy: Nice to see you blogging on here! As expected, you know your stuff, brotha.

Lou: Your five points are right on. Another guy who educates himself on the topics at hand. Nice.

Gravatar Hey - any leads on the pair of down-on-their-luck guys who broke into the 80-something year old woman's aparment, beat her, tied her up and poured bleach on her (second degree burns, skin grafts and long hospital stay)? Enough money and manpower in that budget? Maybe there will be a rally on the square to raise awareness and money. . .

Gravatar Good point, Ed.

Gravatar Racism is evil, but every time someone gets to turn the dial to 11 - rallys like this do the trick - people get offended and outraged, but guess what - there is crime right here in Racine. Everything else should take a back seat to the police in this town until the thugs are out of town or in jail. For exampe - by my calculations the new tree planting budget of $100,000 could be use to hire two new police officers (my property taxes and that of two neighbors would make up the difference plus benefits).

Now enjoy the longest run-on sentence I've ever written - in between the thugs who are offended by seeing police cars driving around (and their indirect advocates who think more of a police presence makes the place look bad) and the pseudo-sophisticated clods with cash and no manners in this city, there are honest, decent hard-working people whose only mistake in life was having been born without an agenda and whose only wish is to be left alone. When is their rally?

Gravatar A great article:

http://www.madison.com/wsj/topst...pstories/ 284444

The gist is that the billions of dollars wired to Mexico every year are nothing compared to the untold billions "pumped" into our economy. In the U.S., we have a safety net to catch many of those who are poor and unable to work. Many creatively choose not to work and jump into that same net. There is a price point at which people, given the choice, will decide not to work and take the free money. The result is that we "need" illegal aliens to perform work "that Americans won't do".

The trick would be to raise the welfare benefits so that even more people choose not to work requiring even more illegal aliens to work - think of the untold billions that would pump into the economy. We'd be more pumped up than Hans or Franz.

Gravatar "Everything else should take a back seat to the police in this town"

Ed - I understand your frustrations with crime, and I share them. However, if we make everything in town secondary to Police, we become Detroit. We have to take care of the city and its infrastructure and continue to better it along with fighting crime.

Gravatar Greg - Detroit is a perfect example of what I speak. They spent well over $100 million to revitalize the city with a new museum, etc., and all they have is a new set of walls for the gangs to tag. Sure, the economic developers, builders, marketers, etc. all made money hand over fist but in the end the taxpayers would have been better off giving every major thug $100,000 to move elsewhere.

Once the thugs become embedded - and I hope that isn't the case in Racine - no amount of police presence will displace them. No amount of "infrastructure development" will fix the problem or make people ignore the problem and want to bring their families and businesses.

Gravatar Well, apparently this morning good old Gary was arrested on child porn and solicitation charges.
So he's proven that he is a disturbed individual.
See ya, Gary. Enjoy the racial diversity in prison.

Gravatar It looks like Racine will be getting a new Mayor, its
under very unfortunate circumstances,but unless
Mayor Becker has been framed and is innocent,
the change will be soon. "Illegal immigration should be the major issue, not only in Racine, but in Wisconsin and the "entire Country" Why is it so
difficult to understand "illegal". There is a war of
violence in Mexico that is being exported here. Why
is the press so silent?

Gravatar "See ya, Gary. Enjoy the racial diversity in prison."

Yup. No racism there.
