Yes Al Gore is full of it. However is not energy saving a good thing?
No cutting back alone will not bring us out of this crisis we are in (importing Oil and Gas) would it not help?

Then too so would the City buying Bio-Diesel for the BUS and City Fleet (Better Mileage and helps the fleet run better and cheaper) but guess that depends on who thought of it

This greatly offends any true traditional conservative who admires old family values like frugality, but apaprently it seems to warm the heart of the new conservative who thinks waste is a sign of a well-trained mind.

because Bio-Diesel unlike ethanol does not have to use food crops to be made. In fact even old corn oil can be used to make Bio.
Gets more MPG then straight diesel
ADM has nothing to do with Bio-Diesel.
Lots of info on Bio diesel check into it.

Actually, John, Fred is applying the time-honored liberal tradition: protest. Endless freaking protest.

John:
I have no problem with conservation, but this "Earth Hour" is just part of a list of asinine ideas the global warming proponents have come up with.
If you want to talk about real, sustainable, green solutions. Let's do - nuclear power, hydroelectricity, wind power, etc. You know, all those things that environmentalists propose.
This "Earth Hour" is really a euphemism for how environmentalists want us to live 24/7/365. In the dark, in the cold, without basic necessities.
I don't know about you, but when it's 36º outside, I really like having heat. I like being able to cook a hot meal. I like having light to read and work by. And I like doing that without having an open flame around.
So I really have a problem with this. Especially when the global warming argument is *not* settled, and when there is plenty of evidence that warrants our skepticism.
And, as Aaron said, we're just doing what liberals do - protesting.

Amy, it's obviously a PR campaign. It's meant to get people thinking about their energy use. If there's nothing wrong with that, then why praise wastefulness with willful wastefulness?

They're doing their part at the Kewaunee nuke plant. 600 MW of carbon-free electricity was taken off-line this morning for a refueling outage. So WI is burning tons of fossil fuels to make up for it tonight.
It makes me want to put on more lights.

As if all the fawning news coverage, Gore's win at the Academy Awards, etc. isn't enough PR?
Look - I know how much energy I use. When I'm not home, stuff is turned off and most minor appliances are unplugged. We turn the heat down during the day if we're at work, and at night when we're asleep.
We recycle.
All the baby items I got when our son was born went into storage as he outgrew them and will be used for our next children. Same with the clothes he has now or will have in the future.
95% of our furniture is second hand. We live close to my employer, my parents, and my in-laws. My husband buses to work and I walk.
Oh, and I pay our utility bill.
We are as green as we could be, and very aware of our energy consumption, and unless you want to buy us a Prius or something I reserve the right to be skeptical about this "PR campaign"...

I was going to turn off the lights until I remembered I was watching an NCAA game and making popcorn. Didn't want any mistakes with all that hot oil in my electric popcorn popper.
Then, I forgot I was out of smokes so I drove exactly one mile to the gas station to get some nicotine goodness. Then I drove back, made the popcorn (in Coconut Oil) added salt and butter and kept my light on. I also phoned in a request to refuel my airplane as I want to go flying in the near future.

It's meant to get people thinking about their energy use.
At 8 p.m. on a Saturday, when most blue- and white-collar workers are off-duty and the babies are sleeping? Lighting a candle for an hour is going to make people conclude what about their daily energy use? Nothing.
Do the "awareness-raising" at 4 p.m. on a Tuesday near the winter solstice--when energy is being consumed for productive activities--and see how enthusiastic people are.
Do the "awareness-raising" at 3 p.m. on a Wednesday in August--and insist the AC be turned off--and see how enthusiastic people are.
Do the "awareness-raising" for a full 24 hours on any day, see how enthusiastic people are.
The only thing this did for people was make them feel warm and fuzzy and virtuous--they were "making a difference" with a meaningless gesture.
I know I felt warm and fuzzy under my 250W sewing lamp.

I live very conservatively and shall continue to do so no matter what the new p.c. mantra will be. I am also ABSOLUTELY 100% CERTAIN that I leave only a tiny fraction of the imprint on the environment that AlGore does.

No - but his message is out there. Turn on the Weather Channel sometime, even if their president thinks Gore's full of hooey, they still have those "specials on."
A Google search of the term "Global warming" yields 45.5 million hits. And you think we're unaware of this problem?
Just like liberals don't want "morality" forced upon them, I don't want junk science to give Al Gore control over my house, my car, my choices.
Do you, John?
