You are correct of course Kate.
The key to this whole thing is that science is not nearly as settled as some wish to think it is.
In fact it is unravelling around them and they just choose to ignore it.
The longer that this goes on the clearer it becomes that this is not about fact or science, it is about a political agenda.

Global warming - the only branch of "science" that doesn't require experimental design, the experiments themselves, then careful analysis. Just collect observations, some (many) of them questionable, plop the data into a computer model that you or a colleague wrote the program for, and poof - proof of global warming!
