What is your new career? Oh god, tell me you haven't written all about it and that I'm just so dumb I've forgotten! Please, forgive me and refresh my memory . . .
Ooh, and this'll probably be a bit of a 'duh' comment cos I know they've been out in the US for AGES but they only just came to Australia: I was browsing through my favourite knicky-knacky store yesterday and came across a range of perfumes called "Demeter Fragrance Factory", which have scents like "Laundromat" (my favourite) and "wet garden" and "dirt". They're fanTABulous!!
Are you as addicted to perfumes as I am?? I have a whole DRAWER of them!

Yes, Demeter fragrances are so fun! I like the ones that smell like cake. No surprise there...Mmmm. Caaaake.
And you missed nothing about the new career announcement--I just made vague reference to Big Life Decisions...I'm re-entering the publishing world full time, and we'll see how that turns out!

congrats on the career move!
ok, so i went back and read the post about the Philosophy, and I just got my tax refund and thus am down with spending crazy money on crap for my face. (and feet, and legs, and so forth) HOWEVER, what DO YOU DO about the SPF factor? My skin is SO oily that I can't use a lot of products with SPF because they just make me too slick. It is a problem.
On another note, I recently (finally) bought Aveeno's Clear Complexion Mask and my skin has never looked so good. So big thanks for the tip!!

Don't skip the sunscreen! Here's the catch-22 about sunscreen ingrendients. You want to use one of these three: Avobenzone, titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide. Avobenzone leaves the shiniest finish of the three, but it's the only one that doesn't clog pores. The other two can be more matte, but they might clog a bit. One possibility is to make sure to use a salicylic acid gel as well to unclog (more to come on that in a future post).
But if I were you, I would do a google search on sunscreen gel. That's your best option to avoid a cream-like texture but keep your sun protection going on!
Keep fighting those free radicals!

So...how many products (non-make-up) do you put on your face in the morning? Does this PC product go on under moisturizer? Or take the place of? Also, I would be interested to hear your thoughts on toner...

Much like Ahe, I wonder how many pre-makeup products it takes for facial fabulousness--and in what order one applies them. Right now I just cleanse and moisturize (with spf for day--Oil of Olay Complete oil free for combo skin, none at night--St. Ives oil free) and maybe that's ok for now since I'm 22, but I think I want to get in on those antioxidants and stuff. I'm starting to see little lines around my eyes (which I attempt to combat with some Loreal something defense stuff)... but...

When I was 22, all I did was clean my face and maybe moisturize. My product-whoriness definitely began in my mid-to-late 20's. However! If I had started earlier, I wouldn't now be seeing those tiny fine lines around my eyes that I hate hate hate, not caring that I'm the only one who sees them.
In the morning I 1) cleanse 2) apply eye depuffer 3) apply antioxidant serum 4) apply sunscreen 5) apply extra sunscreen eye moisturizer.
At night I 1) cleanse 2) apply eye depuffer 3)apply BHA pore-clearing gel (a new one to be discussed soon!) 4) apply anti-zit cream (since I started testing products) 5) use antioxidant serum 6) use retinoid-based moisturizer.
But this is an evolving process, some of these are samples, you can have fewer steps if you like, etc. etc.
As for toner--it's best for oily skin, and make sure there's no alcohol in there. Which is hard to do because some things that sound like alcohol are actually not harsh or irritating. Toners can get rid of excess dirt, soothe your skin, and even moisturize.
As for being 22! You're going to fight most of age damage just by using sunscreen. That shit's magical. But if you want to do some extra work to fight fine lines, sure--go for the antioxidants. You could consider just using them on your eyes, forehead, laugh lines, etc.
Real Girl's all for individual routines. That's why I always ask all you lovelies to tell us what you do! Different skin, different choices. Just consider me your tour guide. xxx

erinire--that's a toughie. I haven't come across a drugstore brand I trust yet enough to recommend (even the Vitamin E concentration in the Body Shop's Vitamin E line isn't supposed to be superb), but I'm always looking!

I've got those damned fine lines around the eyes too. Stupid seven years living in Hawaii. And try telling a high school kid to wear sunscreen everyday. Forehead is a little liney too. Eh, I probably also need to drink a lot more water than I do also, but I'll clearly be sticking with the sunscreen, and fantabulous antioxidant stuff (and pore-clearing would be nice, no fair that I have lines *and* blackheads). You're my face's hero.
