Gravatar I totally agree with that, Real Girl.
A beauty contest sounds like a brilliant idea - can we enter from abroad?
(I think I always ask you questions about whether I can join in with stuff from London - sorry!)

Gravatar oh wait...contest details to be explained soon...I didn't mean that it was a Real Girl "beauty contest" as in who's the prettiest (cuz we're all friggin' gorgeous)...But rather a "Real Girl Beauty" contest.

And if y'all abroad are willing to wait for the cheap shipping to arrive should you win the contest whose details are still to come...Then sure, all are welcome!

Gravatar Your blog is cracking me up... real useful information delivered in a comedy format. Bravo!

Speaking of exfoliating (let's pretend we were, shall we?) have you ever used a Cactus Cloth? Biolage makes it and it's to die for.

I lack terribly in the world of beauty products, but this is the one *I* discovered (yes, I was the first) and so I share it with everyone. They are quite impressed with it and simply do not know that it's the only only only trick in my bag.

Now, I'm off to read your archives to find any secrets for taming my medusa- hair...

Gravatar Ok, so I know I'm late with this, but I have a question: I know you said your hair is fine, but how fine? I'm wondering whether the Fructis will work for me, because my hair is the finest baby-fine hair ever, is wavy/frizzy naturally with a few kinks, but also coloured. This combination is a nightmare to find good hair products for, and all the generic brands have not given me the Pantene advert hair that I dream of (speaking of Pantene, meeeeehhhh). I've been using some Aussie volumising shampoo and conditioner, which not only do not leave my hair full of body but also leave it slightly tangled after washing, so I am abandoning the Aussie stuff. TRESemmé gave similar results (Originated in hair salons! Used by professionals!Um, yeah, the "professionals" down backstreets that give you lopsided hair. Or Supercuts, maybe). Any of the brands for dry/coloured hair weigh my hair down and leave it greasy and lank within 24 hours. So is the Fructis volumising range right for me? Real Girl,as one faithful product junkie to another, I am beginning to give up hope. Help! Or recommend hugely-expensive salon lines that are available in the UK (or that I can order online).

(FYI: I am trying to grow my hair out in response to my perpetual laziness, but this is a long and painful road to travel, involving copious amounts of semi-permanent hair dye to avoid being "That girl with the really bad roots".)

Wait, was there a contest or something? I'm not too talented with the poetry or haiku action, so I'll leave that to the more lyrically creative RGB readers.

(I apologise for making your Comments section all about my hair problem rather than the contest. I also would like to publically declare my love for parentheses.)

Gravatar Hi Zoe (great name!)...

My hair is not baby fine. But I have a recommendation for you. Try the Garnier for fine hair. It's pretty good and should not weigh down your hair. And then, I want you to do a weekly treatment to soften the coarseness. You will balk when I tell you what it is. I know because I balked when my awesome stylist (shout out to Julie!) recommended it to me.

One night a week, slather your hair in olive oil. Wrap it in plastic. Zap a hair dryer over and around it. Let it sit for half an hour. Blow dry around the plastic again however often you feel like it during that time. Then wash it all out with shampoo (tho not conditioner).

There you go. Cheap softness. A natural deep conditioner that won't need to be used every day and so wont weigh down your hair.

Good luck!!

Gravatar Getting some emails about the contest....length? As short as you want! Please just have fun! It's totally not serious. You have nothing to lose by entering. Just have a laugh and a scribble!

Gravatar Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I was up for a beauty contest, as in, let's all line up in a row in our bikinis and discuss world peace. I did think you meant a contest, but just about beauty!
Anyway - thanks for the tips about Fructis. I gave up using that a couple of years ago because it made my hair greasy within about 4 hours. Which is not ideal. But I might start trying some of the different versions now. Thanks again!

Gravatar Real Girl,

Thanks for the advice I have triedthe olive oil thing before, but I didn't really do it often which is porbably why I didn't see results. I gave up because the whole olive-oil-running-down-your-shoulders thing, but maybe I should try again and just put less on.

I'll go and buy some Garnier fine hair shampoo as possible and hopefully come back with a glowing testiomonial

Gravatar Gah! I really should use the "Preview" button before posting - it seems that I need a new keyboard.

Gravatar My hair is rather of the thick, semi-coarse, prone to being overdry variety, but there is a conditioner that I swear by: Matrix Curl Life. It runs about $11/bottle and it is fabulous for curly hair. Much, much better than the twice as expensive for half the product Frederic Fekkai Luscious Curls line. It leaves my hair shiny, soft, full of life, and willing to curl up however I want it to. I am not sure how it would work on finer hair, as it is quite thick, but rinses clean.

Gravatar I've been a random lurker. I know. But I'm here now, and with a comment.

I use Tigi's Catwalk Honey & Oatmeal shampoo & conditioner, which not only smells heavenly, but makes my hair nice and bouncy and whatnot. I have medium-thick hair, which also lives in the world between curly & straight (its wavy with some weird kinks to it), and its frizzy as hell, thanks to living in Atlanta. So that, plus BioSilk shine serum stuff makes for some spectacular hair, whether I'm breaking out the flat iron to straighten or the diffuser to let the curls/waves go wild.
