Gravatar There is probably no other saying I loath more than "everything happens for a reason." My response has always been "Yes. But that doesn't make it fate or divine."

Gravatar I do believe there is a reason for everything, and that G-d is behind it all. And yes, that does mean G-d made a who will live and who will die decision. I however, will not even try and guess the why. But, because I'm a person of fate, I must concede that in the end there is a purpose and the purpose is good.

We will probably be at odds in that sentiment, as well as what that means about a benevolent G-d.

Gravatar Oh, absolutely, but I'm impressed you have the guts to believe that God both saves and kills. Are you an Orthodox Jew? I'm hard-pressed to explain why you left out the "o."

Gravatar If you are an atheist, it goes without saying that these things are chance happenings.

If you believe in God, there is simply no other thing to say than that God saves some and not others. Otherwise, he isn't really God. I don't really see how you can classify a being for whom some things happen out of his control as "God." At that point, he's just a really powerful dude.

Gravatar Point taken, but there's a continuum. If God is God, can't "he" set up a system in which things happen independent of him? I don't believe in it, but I don't see why it isn't possible. He doesn't *have* to be a control freak.

Gravatar everyone has the right to have an opinion, and i think it is wonderful, that you have yours. at least youre not just flowing without thinking. but i think that saying people what to do and what not to...let them thank God for the little miracles, that do happen. let us thank God. don't ask people to give up the hope that gives strength for the life. without hope, what would you do? what do you hope? these little lucky chances that happen once or twice in a lifetime, yes, i do believe in them too. but having them only maximum 4 times a life isn't simply enough for me. i need something permanent and trustworthy to rely on. not everyone are born lucky shirts on, but many of them do thank God..
