You can also add the fact that Bush and his cronies had plans to transform Iraq’s economy into a conservative’s dream with a flat tax, privatization of all publicly owned firms, liberal rules for foreign investment (especially for Americans), etc. The fact that it was all decided by the Americans without any Iraqi input makes it a cruel farce. The end result would have been an Iraqi economy (especially the oil industry) under the direct or indirect control of American corporations. The plans are either shelved or moving very slowly due to the violence and instability. There’s more on this at this blog
