That's excellent news re: China banning plastic bags. That garbage patch is really scary. It's like something out of a '70s dystopia movie...


Gravatar Shangri-La (previously known as Zhongdian) has had this law since before I moved there -- all that happens is that people use those thicker plastic bags instead (the ones that feel like cloth, but not quite). I guess people are at least more likely to re-use those...


Gravatar It seems like a good idea from the "reducing trash flying around in the wind" perspective, but maybe not so much from the "reducing the plastic that ends up breaking up in the oceans" perspective.


Gravatar The amount of plastic used in consumer shopping bags is way high, however, I would rather see a crackdown on polluting vehicles or the amount of pollution created by factories. Both of which the U.S. and China have in multitude.
