This will be my first year homeschooling and I feel the same way. I'm very excited for the school year to begin so we can explore great places around town and not have to deal with the crowds. I feel so free.

By the way, I sometimes reminisce about my bygone office days of doughnuts and lunches at Chili's.

R Mother, you make me want to homeschool!

Then I remember that I don't have kids, and get over it.

But if I ever did have kids...I wonder...as much as I believe it would probably be best for them, would I have what it takes to be with them all day, every day? My hat's off to you all.

Yes indeed, it's nice to feel so free and the kids seem to be so much more willing to participate in learning when they choose it. We do all kinds of things, every day, but we have started a block method for the more structured stuff. For example, Ava wants to read, so we are doing phonics together, but all of us are focused on playing piano this month. We set goals about what we wanted to accomplish this month from the piano and will continue to pursue it as we like in the coming months , however each month will have a new emphasis, we haven't decided on september yet, but we may focus on french.

Great post! I was a compliant, complacent, "good student" and I enjoyed school. Like you, I savor the freedom of homeschooling. Who knows what I missed in my childhood of pleasing the school system, but my kids won't miss out! I hear stories from school moms and shudder at the amount of control school has over their lives -- the time, the stress. It's crazy!
