I don't think the administration misunderestimates the predicament of Iraqi women. I 'm sure they aren't even really thinking about the Iraqi women at all. I'm sure whatever they say in their regards is just lip service.

I think I'm going to be sick.

That "man's" attitude is disappointing to say the least. I didn't know democracy was gender specific.

What scares me the cavalier attitude towards ensuring full citizen rights for any group in a country already a hair's breadth from civil war.

Not 1899, but 1859.

Damn, girl, I like your style!. I was more or less raised a GI brat and mostly in Texas LONG time ago, by a mother who, unlike your snake, had rattlers. She's still raising hell, but "retired" a few years back to Arkansas. I tried to leave it all behind, myself, but keep finding it in my rearview mirror.

You go, girlfriend.

First: Wow...*catches jaw, which will has needed a restraint ever since this administration took office*

Second: Gerecht may be "a former CIA Middle East specialist," but he's got his facts wrong; the United States first truly became a democracy in 1964 with the Civil Rights Act. Prior to that act, the US remained a federal republic with limited voting rights (and with horrific voting discrepancies between the individual states). Give the Civil Rights' Movement its due.

To me, it is just further evidence of how far the administration's heads were and remain tucked inside their asses. Give more credit to the people in Iraq and stop thinking of them as "New American Century" guinea pigs!

Gerecht's attitude toward Iraqi women and women at large is emblematic of this administration's (and unfortunately too many people's) view and understanding of most of our species: humans that are less than equally human and that are to be objectified in order to achieve personal aims and "achievements."

Thanks for the always insight- and inciteful updates!
