No. The PATRIOT Act is a piece of cancerous legislation that forces us to the slippery slope of repressed civil liberties in the name of fear. While we must all consider that intelligence is important and necessary, we don't have to accept the manner by which the cronies go about collecting it. It seems to me that if having an actual meeting with Atta, one of the 9-11 terrorists did not further the idea of preventing him from boarding airplanes what would? Certainly not our library records!
The facts repeatedly indicate that the problem is not in getting the intelligence, (although encouraging the world to hate us will not lead to cooperation from people we need)the trouble seems to come in actually getting the powers that be to listen, and act. When it serves their interests they do, but otherwise...
My feeling is that we need to stopg trying to gag and bind our neighbors and work on GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY.
And by that I don't mean a 9-11 Commission that suppresses testimony and does little to inform our understanding, I mean a public clammoring for truth.

Also see the Christian Science Monitor. I blogged a screen capture of the results earlier this morning, and it continues to tilt.

Yep, SC, I just went there and it's at 90/10 in favor of judicial oversight.
