Mah Gawd, KCB, has it just now occured to you that Congress is focusing on the wrong issue?
I blame the Imperialist Patriarchal Conspiracy

You better come on down to NZ - sunrise 7:30am, sunset 5:30pm. Plus it's cold, so the warmest place is in bed.

I'm with you, but for totally different, child-free reasons. I just think the time change is stupid, a little extra confusion in my year that I could do without. Unless it somehow saves energy usage nationwide (except in the states which ignore it), or unless it protects children from being hit by cars, I just don't see the point.

Often blamed on farmers (who, in response, are known to remark that "the cows don't know what time it is"), I was also told at some point not too long ago that Daylight Savings Time exists to serve the stock market. I heard this the first time a couple of years ago, and in my senility I have forgotten the details. But it supposedly has something to do with when the foreign markets open and giving people who trade the opportunity to make money overseas for an extra hour every day.

This doesn't really make sense to me, either, when analyzed, because I don't think other countries observe daylight savings time or similar nonsense -- though goodness knows I could be wrong. But I do believe that this institution only lives on because somebody somewhere is making a pile of money from it. That does make sense.

I am so with you on that issue! I love my kids dearly, but who wants them up until 10PM every single night? My husband and I feel we have the right to an hour, even fifteen minutes, of child-free time each day.

Good thing you don't live further north.

Advice to new moms: do not put your babies to sleep in completely dark rooms. It is easier to add a small light to a dark room than to make a light one completely dark.

Now, johnieb, you and I both know Congress has always been focused on the wrong issue. I've been carping about this defense o' marriage crap for nearly a year now. It's just that my perception of the actual threats to my marriage has shifted over the past twelve months.

My son went bonkers for about a month. It was pretty ugly. I feel for you.
