You can haul 2 adults and 2 kids in a Prius... and maybe 1 big dog who likes to lie down during the entire trip (we are fortunate enough to have this combination). We also have a Toyota Highlander, which gets 27 miles/gallon on my North Austin to South Austin commute. It also can haul a butt-load of stuff from Costco and pull a trailer. And that thing HAULS BOOTY when you step on the accelerator, using the engine and the motor - WOO-HOO! Almost zero emissions to boot! Well, accept for all those emissions the oil companies already emitted making the gas that I do, on occasion, have to put in my vehicle. Oh well, as you said, there is no good solution currently, but we like this one so far. |

I have friends with 2 kids who traded in their mini-van last year for a biodiesel VW bug. I wish I could make that dramatic of a change. I'm lucky to live in a small college town that's very pedestrian-friendly, but I'm too lazy (and lately too hot) to walk as much as I would like, especially with kids. |

Well, that's disheartening to say the least. Apparently, big business is going to kill us. And the government is all too happy to allow it. |

Alan Lloyd is now one of my least favorite people ever. You can seldom pin the label of "destroyer of worlds" on one man, but given that he and he alone could have kept California's zero-emission mandate on the books, whcih would have forced automakers to keep making these cars, I'm going to attach it to his lapel. |

gas power is incredibly inefficient. Going from gas to electric would save a lot of CO2 and other pollution. |

Real representatives of this nation's people would impose a 5 to 10 dollar per gallon federal gas tax - effective in 2011. |
