I have broccoli in old egg cartons indoors that just sprouted two days ago. Mesclun greens are sprouting in containers outside, and spinach was planted last week but thus far has refused to emerge.
I want my fresh salad!
By the way, I envy your strawberries.

I'm definitely in the mood for gardening but our last frost date here isn't until May 10 or so. I do have assorted crocus, daffodils, tulips and primroses looking bright and cheerful but the only gardening I'm really doing is browsing through the seed catalogs.
I'll be visiting friends in Austin next week though so maybe they'll let me work in their gardens some!

I have to say that I'm jealous of your growing season. I've planted lettuce, carrots, and radishes, but nothing has sprouted yet.
And hey! I have a post request. Any tips on setting up and maintaining rain barrels? I don't even know where to start. (Okay, besides the obvious: Obtain a rain barrel. Collect rain.)

We've grown purple beans and they are very tasty. They turn dark green when you cook them. I think there are photos on my blog last July.
But up here we are only starting things indoors. Mat ordered seeds the other day and will start more stuff. And it is raining and predicted to be in the high 40s and low 50s (I've translated for you) all week though still below freezing at night (good maple syrup weather). So the snow will go, I guess.

So are the bunnies friends now (after the unfortunate butt-biting incident)?

My kids would love to see some snow, but it's just not done here.

Oh, yes. They've even moved in together. The butt-biting has been replaced by grooming, nuzzling and other twee displays of bunny bonding. It exceeds the legal cuteness limit.

We still have patches of snow up here, so, ummm, no.
But the dreaming and scheming has begun ... tomatoes and lettuce and corn, oh my!
In the interim, I shall have to be content to garden vicariously through my southern friends.

Bunnies!!! I love bunnies! Thank you!
As for gardening, well, snow. I did buy a box of liatris bulbs for the butterflies and bees (if any), but the snow has to melt before I can plant them. I stuck some old peas in the dirt right before the last snowstorm, not knowing the snow was coming, just to see what would happen. And I have been looking over my seed collection to see what I can start now, indoors. But gardening? No. Only in my head and heart, lingering over the pages of catalogs and dreaming.

Don't I wish we could have a garden. Big Dog would stomp everything. Maybe one day, when he gets older and more tired.

Am so jealous. Can't put anything outdoors until June 1. The area of the yard where I believe the garden beds to be (moved in the place in November) is sitting under a couple of feet of snow.
