About that bathroom. You're near Austin, right? I've been reading your blog for a long while but rarely comment. I just moved to Austin (in April) and my roommate has had these guys, Dillo Construction, work on three different houses for him. The new shower and bath here is spectacular. |

You are very smart to hire a contractor, even though they are slippery sometimes. I had a similar spot in my house, and poking and prodding and digging to the root of the leak damage ended up with me gutting my bathroom to the studs, and "showering" in the basement standing over a drain using a hose connected to the laundry sink. For four months. |

Oh, very nice! |

Sara, this fellow lives at Mayfield Park in central Austin, like many of his pals and his forbears for several generations. I would love to have some here, but I think the noises they make would push someone (probably me) over the edge. |

Great picture! My dad's family's from rural Mississippi (isn't that most of the state anyway?) & they kept peacocks so they'd act as guard birds... anyone came near the house at night & the birds would let them know. |

The worst time I ever had was trying to hire a contractor for the renovation of our home. Luckily, my dad, who ran a contracting business in another state, agreed to bring his crew to LIVE IN MY HOUSE and do the work. We got away more cheaply than we would have otherwise by hiring outside the NY Metro area, and I got someone who I could trust. |
