What?! I'm outraged, as a woman, a progressive, and mother of 2 young women. It's bad enough that the idea of public funding to support these places is being pushed on us at all, but damn, wingnuts, keep that stuff in your own party. That's just sneaky, dirty politics, and illustrates the need to take back the government.
At our caucus (WA state) we were given a chance to submit resolutions, and a few people did. Most of them were regarding better organization of the caucus process, actually. (the huge turnout caused some complications) But all the resolutions were written up and submitted then ... there were no "mystery resolutions" magically appearing in the packet out of nowhere, that's for sure. Perhaps one of your "nice gentleman" authored them?
That is scary, when your own party's caucus feels like it's been infiltrated. Is nothing safe from the Evangelicals? Leave us alone.

If I shake my head any harder it is going to come unscrewed. WTF? Good thing you and people like you are there. Democracy is awfully fragile in your part of the world by the looks of it.

Good heavens! It should be illegal for anyone to try to sneak such crap in at a presidential caucus.

We ignored the resolutions.
My County chair had pre-screened them.

We only had three in Harris County--one on no new coal fired plants, another encouraging alternative energy sources, and another calling for the state to publicly finance campaigns. That was it.
My sense is that this resolution won't get past your district convention, if it even shows up there. Since you're a delegate, you can find out where the res came from and where it's going, and be prepared to counter it at the district level.

Unbelievable. Both the fact that those two resolutions were at the caucus in the first place, and the fact that *any* Democrat would challenge the idea of reproductive choice.
Your idea for a resolution is sounding pretty good.

I checked this center's website and was also delighted to notice that one of the "choices" a pregnant woman can make is the "Morning After Pill". Like, ??? Is this a joke?

Samara, I wondered about that, but there was no link, and I'm not about to call and ask.
A, I'm glad I can count on your vote! Just bide your time until my kids are grown.
Everyone -- yeah, I was flabbergasted by the whole thing. I know there are Dems who have mixed feelings about abortion, but it's none of their (or anyone's) business anyway and there's already a party that opposes women's rights. Dems who feel *that* strongly about limiting women's rights should sit down and either realize that their position is inconsistent with other Dem ideals and adjust accordingly or join the GOP and leave us alone.
JoVE, yes, democracy is fragile here. It's like a garden that needs constant tending to keep corporate and dogmatic weeds from taking over. Not having lived anywhere else, though, I cannot imagine what a less contentious democracy might be like.

"whereas abortion is traumatic for a woman"
And of course, my labor and delivery was a ticker tape parade.
Of all the lines of argument from the compulsory pregnancy crowd, the faux concern ones grate the worst. Rooted as they are in the condescending view of women as victims of their own hysteria, they clothe a pernicious philosophy in benign terms. Of course the only reason a woman would choose abortion is if she were mentally addled from the stress!
I prefer slut-shaming for its honesty.

It sounds to me that the only appropriate funding for such a center would be for it to be funded by the church(es) that want to sponsor it.

I'm the woman with the shaky voice. Thanks for your advocacy. I love strong women and I love that you are raising children, though I hear lettuce is way more difficult.

Hi, J, and thank you for speaking up and sharing all that budget information.
As for lettuce versus children, it's a draw. I don't have to worry that the kids will get carried away by pillbugs, and the lettuce never leaves toys all over the house.
