It sounds as if you and Hombre have given Rocketboy the tools to know himself and take care of his needs. I'd hate to have to disillusion him and let him know that not everyone else has those tools or appreciates those who do. What cool parents you and Hombre are. I'm dying to know who Rocketboy grows up to be.

Hi RMama,

Thanks for such a great story about Rocketboy and your UU church! I work for UUism and this story was a real pick-me-up. RE is one of the best things we do.

Happy Beltane!

That is indeed a great story and that sense of self and ability to act is so important. I wouldn't be too quick to decide that the reaction was unique to the type of church, though. I suspect that the nature of UU churches might create more RE teachers that would act in this way, but there are probably also individuals in other churches who have that kind of approach, too.

te most disappointing aspect of the sunday school in our church is how little religious education is in it sometimes. We only go to church because Tigger has a strong faith and wanted to go. Sometimes I think the sunday school is geared for the children of church-going parents and is about keeping them busy and happy during that time. Tiggers needs seem to be significantly different from those of other kids and its hard to see how that could be accomodated. But again, that might be the particular folks who have volunteered to teach (and I'm not willing to do so).
