Hilarious! It could be, though, that having so many (pets or children) makes you less nutty about them in general. I mean, if you lose one, well, there's a dozen more just waiting for some attention...

Oh, you have so many wonderful little peeps at your house! I just have one kitty, and am still amazed that I have the ability to keep her alive! (sheesh, and I want kids...)

More power to you for keeping up with your menagerie. I used to have over 50 potted plants. Then I got a dog. Then I had a kid.

We don't have the dog anymore and we are down to 2 houseplants that are somehow surviving completely neglected in the corner of the dining room. The only reason they get some water, oh, quarterly, is that my son notices them and begs to water them for fun.

It's all I can do to keep the 3 of us alive and well, so I'm actually secretly relieved to have gotten rid of all of my other organisms. Sometimes I do miss them, but in a very fair weathered way.

Karen, you could be on to something. I love all the critters, but I don't have time to invest in my relationships with them as deeply as I might have before I had kids. That's part of the reason I have them all paired up like Noah's ark -- so they've got peeps of their own.

Sadira, fortunately, I've never seen any correlation between pet-owning skillz and parenting acumen. ;>

Chelsea, you had fifty houseplants? I remember when you had one pothos ivy. Those plant spikes must be like steroids.

Live rats, huh? Sweet.

We once had a hen with a similar bald patch on top of her head, complete with mangled comb. She was something of the barnyard hussy, the rooster would grab on to those feathers up there for that "horsey ride". You've got quite a pack there! I'm down to 2 dogs and a large rabbit. And the children, of course.

Live rats, huh? Sweet.

She'd found a baby rat and was toting it around. Every now and then she'd stop to play with it and then carry it around some more. That was the Day the Dog Kisses Died, at least for me.

Cowbell, the thought of a bald, hussy hen amuses me greatly.
