Seed catalogs and the Jackson Perkin's website get me through. I have too much shade in my yard to grow a real garden. We are surrounded by huge trees.

It's so cool that you have so many sprouts. There's something about that green popping up that is always a thrill.

It's even cold here in the Valley. 45 with a wind chill of 36. I moved here to get away from the cold.

At least we finally have a heater. Our house gets cool and stays cool - which is good in the summer, not so good in the winter.

Well we have real winter and I much prefer it to what you are getting. I lived in England for almost 15 years and that sort of cr&p lasts for several months there. V. depressing. At least with snow and ice you can go outside (in sunshine) and do things like skate, ski, etc. When it is just above freezing and raining you can't do anything.

I quite like winter. We went for a walk today to do the shopping and stopped in a café for coffee.

I dug my potato trench this weekend, I 've got the tomato beds weeded back and ready to till!!.

I hope to have lettuce in the ground this next weekend.

(I live a bit south of you, about 2.5 hours or so.)

It's been warm here lately (20's), but the last few days have finally been acting like a proper Michigan winter. We haven't had a single-digits daytime high yet, but there's still some January to get through. I'm really glad of it too; I was afraid my last winter in Michigan would be mild and leave me thinking I might want to move back some day. No thank you.

Mrs G, seed pr0n is always good in the dead of winter. Gaia, I can't believe it's that cold down there. Of course, I don't think it got above 38 or so here today. Bleah. Good luck with the lettuce, Robin.

Degen and JoVE, I salute you. Someone has to live where it snows and gets cold as hell, but for all its loveliness and charm, snow scares the shazbot out of me. No kidding. I blame my South-Texas upbringing.
