As far as I know, there is no direct link between the Doll House and turkeys, at least not culinary-wise. The turkey is just the official bird of Cuero. That area used to be big into turkey raising, and there used to be a "turkey trot" every year in which all growers would herd their turkeys down Main Street toward the packing house, come November.

The town's official mascot turkey is named Ruby Begonia, and she does race another turkey from Worthington, MN every year for the title of World's Fastest Turkey. Last year I think she lost.

Cuero TurkeyFest has a website: http://www.turkeyfest.org/index.shtml

The Doll House used to be an awesome breakfast place, but closed last year due to a bitter divorce (so I hear) and re-opened for a while, a shadow of its former self. I think it's closed for good now.

I would like to know the connection between the two as well...I don't believe I remember any turkeys visiting my dollhouses...But, those turkey races sound hillarous!!

I love the chicken as well...it is just wonderful!

Speaking of dollhouses, kcb, is Artisan's Alley still in operation in S.A.? Spent a lot of my youth searching for dollhouse accessories there...

Wine Scamp, thanks for the turkeyfest and Doll House info. That's so sad that such an interesting looking little place is sitting empty.

Sadira, I would love to have one of those recycled chickens, but for the price of one I could buy a lot of chicken feed.

Chelsea, it's still there. You wouldn't believe how much the area around it has grown up now.

Ok, that's crazy that Artisan's Alley has a website. It's so upscale now! It was this funky down home place (in my memory) and now it's like Santa-Fe-ish. No more dollhouse furniture, it looks like. Or the sticker shop that used to be there. : (
