Seattle voters just voted down a mass transit and traffic improvement plan. -sigh- No one wants to pay more taxes. The concept of investing in one's society doesn't seem to have made it to the good ol' USofA.

Having good public transportation is such a luxury, and of course, it shouldn't be. That's one of the things I miss about living in a major major metro area: not having to have a car. The only other way to get there is to live in a small town, where it's possible to walk to everything. Here, well, I can walk to almost everything. I have to drive to get food, and even that has an asterisk because in the summer and fall there is a farmer's market within walking distance and I grow lots of veggies, so the trips to the store are reduced. This would no doubt be different if the hungry mouths to feed in my house did not belong to four legged furballs. Then again, my mom tells stories about riding the bus with three kids in diapers.

But feeding animals to make them leave you alone? Does that work?

Does that work?

It does with dogs and chickens. Can't say firsthand with deer.

MC -- I don't get the anti-tax thing. Voters here shot down a light-rail project a while back. The opposition's big line was that with the money it would cost to build the line (to reduce gridlock), we could buy every commuter a new Volvo. Talk about missing the point!

Please present your mother with a medal at once.
