Dictionary (dot)cm says Evangelical:
1. Also, e·van·gel·ic. pertaining to or in keeping with the gospel and its teachings.
One could say "evangelical" just means Christian, and since some statistics I've heard say the whole nation is as much as 96% Christian (also b.s.), then 75% would be a fair bet. Still inaccurate, but fair. Saying that 75% of homeschoolers are evangelical during a movie about crazy religious fundamentalists is incredibly misleading however, as I'm sure the fundies are a very small portion of "evangelicals."

One could say "evangelical" just means Christian Sure, but that would be pretty disengenuous, because I doubt most liberal mainline Protestants or most Catholics would self-identify as Evangelicals. I certainly didn't when I was attending Episcopal church.
One could also say that the little 'c' definition of catholic is broad enough to include every human on the planet, but there are an awful lot of non-Catholics out there.
Belief.net has a good guide to Evangelicals here: http://www.beliefnet.com/politic...l/
mainline.html
It's a pretty specific subset of Protestantism.
My issue is not with the overall number of religious homeschoolers, whatever it may be, but with the fact that the filmmakers presented a WAG as a fact, which -- to me at least -- is unacceptable in a documentary.

It's probably only a matter of time before the US Census form contains a homeschooling box to check.

My own ideas about homeschooling have matured as the result of a posting I did on my blog and the subsequent discussion. I am still something of an "anti," but I can understand why people do it. Often there is no ideology behind home schooling, from what I can gather, beyond wanting the best for one's kids.
Home schooling does preclude having a career, pretty much, I would say. That's the only serious argument I have against it, because women pay big time for being out of the job market.
