Sounds like a brilliant lesson plan to me. I love the idea of soaking up practical skills whilst you learn those scientific principles.

I have learned that oppressive heat coupled with being cooped up with children make me a dull girl! I have also learned that just because you order something from Amazon 3 weeks in advance from when you need it, they won't even ship it until a week AFTER you needed it. I did however find a great site, you may already know about it:

www.sciencefriday.com

It has some great science videos and has inspired us to amp up the experiments with cornstarch and green slime is totally gonna happen! I am trying like crazy to make "school" time more fun this year. It really is harder than it looks!

Pics made me miss our big lop. *sniff* Hey, are you sure you don't want to enroll your kids, real quicklike, so they don't miss out on the banning of President Obama's brainwashing, socialist, speech with all the other school children?

Our Labradogs eat apples from our little dwarf trees in the yard.

Yeah; I'm having a hard time fitting the ps kids observation into the rest of the post.

Eh, I just threw it in because I felt pretty conspicuous having my kids forage for half-rotten fruit across the street from the school.

OTOH, the schoolkids here don't get enough recess, and a little fruit gathering might be a welcome change from their routine.

Love that picture of the pear-stuffed dog head!
