You totally forgot Fernando's rule that it's better to look good than to feel good.

I tactfully mention to right-wingers that it's no good to read the health care legislation if you're going to read it upside-down.

Great post! I hesitate to even bring up this topic with people because of the crazy rants I've heard. There are a lot of angry white people out there scared to death of things that don't make any sense...it's just a little freaky and scary if they are doing your eyebrows at the same time. Yikes!

It still stops me in my tracks when I encounter people who act like this! I thought it would happen less once I left west Texas, but, turns out, not so much. Turns out stupidity and racism is pretty wide spread. Why does that surprise me?

I am so glad I found your blog! Here I was looking for some new homeschooling blogs to read and when I found yours, it cracked me up.

With regard to what you said on the President, his "czars" and healthcare reform (and everything else), I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you for expressing it so well!

My usual response to this nonsense is, "well, that's just silly." I've been lucky enough to avoid conversations about this in public, but on FB things can pretty ugly.

I hope you've already started looking for a new hairdresser.

You always say exactly what I wanted to say, but just didn't have the words for. Thank you so much.

Holy Cow! I hope you didn't tip her.

I, too, have these problems with my family. Lately I see them less and less because the racism is just too much to take, especially around my small children.

It seems that the public option may be off the table, but honestly, that may not be such a bad thing. While I absolutely support it, consider this: most social agenda bills are passed in weaker form at first, and then strengthened once the public warms to them. Witness the Civil Rights Act of 1957. I think if we don't get the public option now, we will once the public sees that having affordable healthcare was not as crazy as they originally thought.

Glad you got more rain.

I agree with Jen Anderson: "I hope you've already started looking for a new hairdresser." I don't shop at Walmart for political reasons and I sure as hell wouldn't support a beautician stupid enough to express racist remarks (in earshot of, let alone) TO her customers. Dumbass probably needs health insurance more than most, as well.

Don't forget to tune in tonight, y'all. 7pm CST for the Health Care Address to Congress.

Rest assured, I'm getting another stylist. Life's too short to pay to deal with mean people.

And yep, we'll be watching the speech tonight. Hope you all will be, too.

Hopefully the speech tonight helped a bit.

Also: I love this blog. That is all.

It's so effing hard, isn't it? FB was really getting me down, until I figured out that it's possible to "hide" people from your newsfeed. I've signed the petitions, I allowed my pic to be taken of me in front of the Capitol building holding a pro-public option sign, I've emailed my rep and sens repeatedly, the White House has also heard from me several times. Now? Now I'm pulling back, focusing on feeling good. I can't keep up this tension forever...

As an outsider watching Americans eat their young alive at the moment it is very reassuring that there really are sane people out there. The problem as always is that the noise mongers always get the attention - nothing like a maddog senator yelling on tape to get the rateings up. Brings to mind the old say - an empty vessel makes the most noise - how true! Great blog thanks for the laugh

At times I just want to yell out to some of these mouth-foamers, "Are you INSANE?"

To d.a.: yes, they are insane.

Casey: I dropped my favorite hair stylist a few years ago because I couldn't take his "politicking" all the time. All I wanted was some peace and quiet while I got my hair cut--I didn't want to have to educate him on why he was being silly and ignorant.

As for the profiteers of fear and hate: they just make me so mad I want to spit.
