Wow. Thank you, Mr. Light-switch, for dramatizing these mothers' worries...

The soil? Really? Oy.

I always liked to think of myself as an inert material that requires intensive preparation by others to produce something really worthwhile.

I worry about this too. Especially because where we live now is much more homogenous and heteronormative and traditional in all ways than the city in which my boys were born. It's hard to expose them just by describing stuff that they never see.

Reading porn in a coffeeshop? Is he just grabbing the free wifi (ba dum bump)or is this some form of exhibitionism?

As the mother of 2 boys, I so relate(example-my boys are among the few that have to do dishes, etc in our little town). Right on with the political commentary-much appreciated and echoed.

The SOIL? Wow. I can appreciate that metaphor in an earthmamagoddess kind of way - as an adult feminist. But you've got to be pretty inane to write that and not realize that little boys will think girls have dirt in their wahchees. I hope your friend did a rewrite.

You just can't make this stuff up, can you? Nor, alas, do we have to. (sigh)

did you take that as a cue to shriek I see [penis, vag, boobies] and thoroughly embarrass him? Cause that is what i would have done.

"...because they think their own life experience is humanity’s default setting."

Pardon me while I just applaud that insightful and SPOT ON turn of phrase. Brilliant.
